Shield Mountains

Comprising over half of the ring of peaks surrounding Respite, the shield mountains are towering examples of natural majesty, their snow capped peaks only thawing at the height of Seething Sky.
Most mountains in this range are shallower than the northern Teeth of The Maledict. Even so, the single dwarven expedition to these peaks never returned, and it has been five cycles since.

Geography

An impassable wall of natural peaks, the shield mountains separate the natural bay of Respite from the southwestern portion of the continent of Nesfaolo.

Ecosystem

Many of the more dangerous natural predators of the area originate from the shield mountains, spreading into the surrounding fields and Twilight Woods while on the hunt. Screams from the mountain peaks sometimes carry all the way to Respite, keeping locals awake in fear.
