The Oriq
The Oriq is a fabled secret society of mages on Arcavios who use magics "forbidden by the mages of Arcadia" and are obsessed with power at any cost.
A mythical shadowy organisation of magic users whom sow destruction upon arcane institutions. Little is agreed upon of The Oriq's true intentions and philosophy, tales posit that they harbour a seemingly hypocritical deep seated hatred of magic users. Their membership is incredibly secretive; accounts of the Oriq in Bastion City, Wyldrock, and Zephyr alledge they aim to foster human-supremacism, in The Arbor Court and D'Almorha they are portrayed as religeous zealots attempting to bring a new undying religious empire into the world. Whereas legends of their activities in the Brass Concorde and Wildlands suggest an aim to dismantle power structures and delve Arcadia into unending chaos. One repeating motif is that they seek to undermine the influence of existing magical heirarchies, arch mages, even the Founder Dragons themselves. Oriq are usually dressed in dark clothes, with metal masks hovering where their faces should be. One of their most powerful tools are the Mage Hunters, horrifying demonic aberrations that can sense and devour magic.
Oriq activities have been 'recorded' all over Arcavios, seemingly without rhyme or reason, for at least four thousand years. Though no two attacks/incursions have ever been closer than 80 years together. Most alleged attacks by the Oriq quickly turn out to be perpetrated by copycats and renegade mages; still, many Archmages in Arcavios publically hesitate to dismiss the shadowy order as legend altogether. But certainly the majority of Arcavians belive the Oriq to be nothing more than a myth, boogeymen to scare mages into learning their wards abjurations.
