Session 7: Failure Without Consequences
General Summary
We are shopping at Miglore's Magical Mysterium. I asked him about a few sexy seeming items that were not actually sexy. Disappointing. Skoldreg sold him some acid (not that kind... at least I think not) and used the proceeds to buy all of us a turn with drawing a mystery clearance item from Chest'er Chance. Cathia got a shield of expression, Cillian got something cool, but I can't remember what. I got a Rod of Angling, Night got a wand of fireworks, and Skoldreg got a lute. Miglore told us another guy sells cheaper scrolls because we are pretty poor and couldn't really afford much of anything at Miglore's.
We did ask Miglore about books that eat people. He said he never sold anything like that, but the Amberdunes did. We left after that in search of the book. Cillian asked his new imp familiar, Randy to go back and lift the the bag of holding from Miglore. He got caught and died. I poured one out for him using the decanter of endless spirits, but poured out the entire one gallon. Whatever. It respawns. Apparently so does Randy... more on that later.
We made our way over to the Amberdune Stall. Just after we got there, we realized Randy had actually survived and was just invisible. We talked to one of the vendors about the book that tried to murder me. She got kinda shitty with us, so we asked to see the manager. The manager asked us to step into her office, but we were feeling our best Karen selves so we started broadcasting how they sell books that try to kill you. Eventually we agree to go to the manager's office, but only if we could bring Skoldreg's Steel Defender.
We talked to her and she said she is making counterfeit books to raise money to revive her dead friend and leader. She said she had no idea the replicas would attack someone. She offered to sell them to us but we said screw that shit because she owed us. I told her that in the Shadowfell we don't file lawsuits when we get ripped off we just do murder. She finally agreed and went to get the books, followed by Skoldreg, his steel defender, and Randy.
When she came back and had actually given us the originals, I felt kind of bad about threatening to murder her. So, we agreed to tell a story about their dead friend and ask for donations to help get her resurrected. It seemed to have worked! Tons of people were piling into their stall after we spread the story around. As we were leaving, Randy stole some gems from the gem vendor.
We got back to school and turned in the books. We got a helm of Comprehend Languages, that we plan to take turns sharing and using. I got back into my extracurriculars. The librarian told me that her test still counted as a failure though. I told her I was fine with failure if it was without consequences. The group had some feelsy moments where everyone was encouraging to me about her failure and being "stupid" and where I got super sappy about how great my friends were. It really is nice to have friends. Then the discussion veered into one about being good in bed and the librarian reminded us he was still there.
We finished up our classwork for the week. Cathia ended up summoning some friendly ghosts and earned some points for our group, which is now named Failure without Consequences. Night was studying her arcanobotany and saw a classmate about to fall into the Sedgemoor. She fell in trying to help and is all stinky now, but she did pass her class. Me and Skoldreg both passed our classes this week. It was kind of a given that Skoldreg would, but for me, that's pretty awesome. Cillain did not pass his class this week. We found out the week's rankings were in and we were number 1! We decided to celebrate by going to Bow's End. Night was hesitant to go since she fell in the swamp and was stinky. I asked her how she preferred to smell and Night said she liked to have her paws smell like fritos, so I used my druidcraft to make Night smell all Fritoy and away we went to Bow's End.
We got to bow's end and there is a new game being played called Wizard Gizzard. It seems like it is like ski ball or something. Jav Stoutclaw is teaching everyone to play. We played a round against each other and Night kicked our asses. We all became better friends with Javensh Stoutclaw.
Just as we were finishing up our first round of Wizard Gizzard, we heard a commotion from the kitchen. Some steam mephits were on the loose. One of the mephits blinded Cathia. Night did some super inspiring cheerleading cheers for us all during the combat. We killed all the steam mephits and Tulk, the manager, gave us some potions of healing (2) and some free booze. Not too bad.
