Session 3: Familiar Deathmatch!
General Summary
The Randos reconvened back at our dorm building after our library B&E to discuss the plan. Regret told us we may be able to charm some fourth years and get what we want from The Crystal Tower. We think this sounds like a great plan so we decide to meet up there the next day after class. Cathia finds it hard to fall asleep that night. She stares at Regret until his snoring lulls her to sleep.
We went over to the Crystal Tower right after class to try to find some students to talk to to try to get in. We chatted up one student. He was a little weird with Cathia, so she stepped away. Dahlia offered him some reading material - an early draft of Rock Hard Regret. Skoldreg talked to him about math and solved a complicated sounding math problem. It was over some of our heads, but the rest of us did discover the floor there at Quandrix was magical and did magical calculations. Anyway, this Quandrix guy whose name we didn't ask made some vaguely sexual remarks to Skoldreg about his wyrm, and then gave Skoldreg two fractal pets. Dahlia decided she would write a new story titled Skoldreg's Wyrm and give it to this nice guy.
Afterward we make our way toward the swampy Sedgemoor. We pass the detention bog and it seems pretty terrible. Cillian vandalized the detention bog sign and added the words "your mom." Dahlia found this inspiring and pulled out her notebook to jot her latest story idea- "Detention Sucks - a tale of detention and blow jays."
We arrive at the bog. Cillian spots a worm and is going for it but a scary ass swamp dog popped up and scared the hell out of us. Dahlia hurled a chromatic orb at it - it was rainbowy and pretty and morphed into a beautiful snowglobe. It hit the dog hard. Cillian followed up reaching out and casting inflict wounds on it. Night That Eats Stars rushed at the swamp dog, scaring the worm in the process. Cathia assaulted the dog with some magic missles.
Stuff got nasty then. The dog grabbed Cillian, slashed him, and poisoned him. Everyone continued trying to take the dog down and get Cillian out of his claws. Unfortunately it didn't work out so well. Cillian went unconscious and then the dog turned on Night, biting her and knocking her unconscious too. Dahlia flew in and dumped a healing potion in Night's mouth. Cillian rallied, waking up and healing himself. Then Skoldreg finished off the dog.
After that ordeal of a fight, we were super determined that we would get what we came for. We worked together to capture the worm. Cathia and Night used their mage hands to try to get it. After a few attempts with it just slipping past the mage hands, Dahlia used her druidcraft to make the sound of a swamp dog, Cillian used his druidcraft to make the mage hands smell like pest worm pheromones. The worm ran right into the mage hand then.
Before leaving the swamp, we decided to check out some of the research facilities. Inside we found some plant and fungus harvesting kits, that give advantage to harvesting spell components. We each stole one. Next we found two healing potions - Dahlia took one and Skoldreg took the other.
During the week leading up to the familiar race, not a lot happened. Dahlia worked on making a luchador mask for her inkling.
The day of the familiar race finally came. It was super exciting, just knowing it was a secret race. We all managed to hide out and stay in the Firejolt after closing for the race. Some other students approached us and asked if we were there to race. Dahlia was suspicious and called them cops. Eventually we give up and tell the other students that we are there for the race. So were they and they got us all set up on the race table.
Our familliars raced against each other. Dink and Shithead both got pretty rebellious and attacked Dahlia and Cillian. Final standings: Little Fucker, Euler, Regret, Dink, and Shithead. The race was cool and everyone was having a good time, when suddenly the stupid familiars started growing and attacking us.
Shithead bit Dahlia and Little Fucker punched Night. Night went unconscious but Cathia healed her. We teamed up on Dink, and eventually after we hurt him enough he turned back into his regular self. Unfortunately the rest of the little bastards were still oversized and raging and they just kept attacking. Dahlia and Night both passed out from taking too many hits. Cillian healed them both and Dahlia got up and very dramatically stabbed Shithead with her dagger pinning him to the floor and causing him to revert into his normal form. Before we had a chance to celebrate getting another one down, Euler attacked Skoldreg and knocked him out. Dahlia blasted Regret with a firebolt. He exploded, wounding Cathia. He then reassmbled himself, but back into his normal chill familiar self. That left us with just the fractal shits to worry about. Night and Cathia laid into them and we finally started chipping away at them. Dahlia healed Skoldreg. Then Night got knocked out again, so Dahlia healed her too.
Eventually we had the fractals bested and all the familiars had turned back to normal. But we still couldn't celebrate because it was right about then that we got busted for being in the cafe after curfew. Ellina came in and was all - "rawr rawr rawr, get out, wtf are you doing in my cafe after curfew?" We lied and said we were just getting drunk when these familiars attacked. Skoldreg mended some broken stuff in the tavern. We agreed to leave and not tell anyone we were out after curfew.
