History
By the time the Galactic Empire discovered Zygerria, the native Zygerrians had already developed a semi-feudal autocracy led by a powerful monarch. Recognizing the Zygerrians' inherent drive to dominate and enslave other species—a reflection of their "might makes right" philosophy—the Empire found this trait useful in managing other subjugated populations, granting Zygerrians some leniency as slave traders under Imperial rule.
However, the Empire’s policy prohibiting non-humans from holding royal titles posed a complication for Zygerria’s leadership. To navigate this, the most powerful Zygerrians were allowed to form an official Slavers Guild, which—quite fortuitously—ended up being led by the former monarch. This clever maneuver allowed Zygerria to maintain its social structure and expand its economy, particularly as Imperial nobles sought alien laborers, embedding the Zygerrian slave trade more deeply into the Empire's fabric.
Long before the Empire’s arrival, Zygerrians had mastered the use of slave labor, building sprawling fortresses and cities atop the planet’s scattered mesas. This reliance on forced labor only intensified under Imperial subjugation, positioning Zygerria as a thriving hub in the galactic slave trade. When the Galactic Civil War erupted, Imperial control over Zygerria weakened. Both the planet and the Slavers Guild eventually operated independently from the fractured Empire. Centuries of prosperity under Imperial rule had cemented Zygerria's role as a key player in the slave labor industry, securing its economic power and ensuring the continuation of the slave trade. As a result, Zygerria emerged as a powerful center for the slave trade, its economic foundations firmly entrenched over centuries of exploitation. The collapse of Imperial authority did not diminish this practice; instead, it allowed the Zygerrians to expand their operations, further securing their dominance in the industry.
Today, Zygerria serves as the capital of the expanding Slave Empire, with its influence spreading to nearby systems. The Zygerrian Slavers Guild wields considerable power across the galaxy, solidifying Zygerria’s status as a central hub for both trade and control. Additionally, Zygerria hosts annual races that attract spectators, gamblers, and figures from the Galactic underworld.
