Geography
Sinon is the largest populated planet in the Sinon system and is the homeworld of the Sinonian species. Sinon itself is a Large planet with a diameter of just under 15.000 km. It is a normative wet environment with around 50% of the surface made up of water. Sinon have polar ice caps centred around the geomagnetic poles of the planet. and 5 climatic belts.
Polar belts at the geomagnetic poles, followed by 2 Dry belts, generally made up of an arid, cold highland desert landscape, that leads into mountain ranges with a Tundra climatic zone. which gets replaced by a wide equatorial temperate belt.

History
Though there are a limited remaining records of the Sinonian species prior to the beginning of the Galactic Civil War, all indicate that they were a low tech level tribal species. According to local history there was a long period of intertribal feuds, leading to the tribes subjugating each other under the strongest local chieftain. These chieftains over time rose to become petty kings. With the rise of kingdoms the feuds turned into wars and kingdoms continued their struggle, an era locally known as the Kingdoms Wars. This lasted until during one point during the galactic civil war the Sinonian species had a sudden jump in technological development. indicative of an off world influence. Nothing is really known about what caused it or how exactly the tech boost happened. According to local history one of the kingdoms suddenly was technologically far superior to the others, an advantage that was leveraged both at war, with far superior weapons, but also in civil society. During the time near the end of the Galactic Civil War, a local Sinonian empire had risen to control the entire world and entered into early space travel.
Sinonians hold their two moons in high regard and they are considered, almost to be divine mythical entities in their own right. a cultural remnant from their pre tech boost era. In Sinonian culture two symbols and four colours hold a high cultural value. The Hollow Circle and The Ten Rayed Sun. Blue is a symbol of Stability, Red is a symbol of Strength, White is a symbol of Justice and Black is a symbol of Unity. These symbols permeate Sinonian culture and are in-part linked to their moons, Redmoon will at full moon, resemble a Red hollow circle when observed for Sinon.
During the Dark Age the local empire prospered and for a time there was peace on Sinon. Though over time rivalling political ideologies grew which led to growing civil unrest in the Sinonian society, this ultimately led to the currently on-going Civil War on Sinon. Sinonian Society is currently split between two factions. On one side you have the "Blue Banner/White Sun"-Movement and on the other the "Black Banner/Red Moon"-Movement.
This civil war has been on-going for over a decade and has brought great suffering and pain to the Sinon people, its been characterised by ruthless and extreme violence. cities being besieged, starved and bombarded. villages burned to the ground. refugees being ambushed, assaulted, raped and murdered. When the news of the suffering reached Federal and Republic space, both sought to do "the right thing". They both established Enforced Security Zones on the planet's surface, one for each Hemisphere, and a mutual agreement was made between the Republic and the Federation. No-warring parties were allowed inside their zones, any transgression of their zone would be met with a military response. each zone would provide refuge and aid to refugees and the local population. each party would respect the authority of the other zone.
Federal Enforced Security Zone or FESZ,is a 100 km by 100 km square zone, located in the Western Hemisphere of Sinon. It is continually enforced by the Federal Armed Services, with 1 Federal legion deployed but may house more legions depending on need. further to the enforcement it also has several non-governmental aid organisations present.
Republic enforced security zone or RESZ, is a 100 km by 100 km square zone, located in the Eastern Hemisphere of Sinon. It is continually enforced by the Republic Military, with about a division strength force. like the federal zone it too has non-governmental aid organisations operating within.
