Eden

Geography

Eden, a terrestrial human-habitable world, offers a captivating landscape across its three continents, two polar ice caps, and vast world ocean. The planet boasts expansive, windswept grassy plains that dominate the majority of its surface. These open plains are home to a variety of native wildlife and are known for their breathtaking, unobstructed vistas. While large forests are relatively scarce on Eden, scattered woodland areas offer a lush contrast to the grassy plains. These pockets of greenery are essential for biodiversity and provide valuable resources to the planet's inhabitants. Eden's coastal regions are characterized by stunning sandstone cliffs that rise majestically from the world ocean. These cliffs not only provide natural beauty but also serve as important geological features.

History

Eden was transformed by the arrival of the Symbiotes. Symbiotes are humans who have undergone a transformative infusion of advanced cybernetics, elevating their cognitive capacities to extraordinary levels. Within the galactic empire, they served as invaluable data analysts, researchers, and advisors, playing a pivotal role in accelerating technological progress and bolstering the empire's strength. As the Symbiotes' intellectual contributions propelled the Empire forward, they began to demand equal rights and recognition as a distinct people within the Empire. Their yearning for autonomy and self-determination grew, fueled by the realization that they were being exploited for their intellectual labor. Fearing the potential consequences of the Symbiotes' demand for equal rights, the Empire implemented a Loyalty program designed by an unparalleled scientific genius in cybernetics and A.I., Dr. Brackman. This program enslaved the Symbiotes, effectively suppressing their aspirations for freedom and recognition. Dr. Gustaf Brackman, profoundly uncomfortable with the subjugation of the Symbiotes, made a daring choice. He fled to a distant planet, Eden, taking with him some of his closest Symbiotes in whom he had secretly disabled the Loyalty safeguards. Their journey to Eden was marked by both hope and uncertainty, as they sought a new home where they could live free from oppression and build a society that celebrated their unique human-cybernetic identity.   While the Symbiotes have embraced technology, they are equally committed to preserving the natural beauty of Eden. They have introduced innovative ways to harmonize their technological advancements with the planet's ecosystems, promoting sustainability without compromising their symbiotic way of life.

Urbanization

One of the most distinctive features of Eden is the remarkable Sky City Towers, Octagonal structures that reach an astonishing height of 1 kilometer into the sky. These architectural marvels are at the heart of the Symbiot civilization.

Structure: Each Sky City Tower is composed of 10 segments, with each segment accommodating and employing 10,000 citizens. The base of the tower is a unique octagonal double cone, housing essential services, power supplies, and often grav-rail stations in the lower half. The first actual segment begins in the upper half of the base cone. Subsequent segments are stacked like inverted cones, creating a fascinating architectural structure. Each segment is designed with its own internal park or outdoor space, providing residents with a harmonious living environment.

Population: A single Sky City Tower can house and employ 100,000 citizens, illustrating Eden's commitment to efficient urban development and the fusion of human-cybernetic symbiosis.

City Growth and Expansion:
The growth of cities in Eden is a testament to adaptability and sustainable urban planning. As a Sky City Tower's population grows, a small ringed or walled town/city is established at the tower's base. If the population continues to expand, two scenarios emerge:   New Tower Construction: In response to substantial population growth, a new Sky City Tower is constructed within a reasonable distance, facilitated by the high-speed grav rail network. This expansion effectively creates a new city while allowing Eden's inhabitants to maintain a balance between urbanization and environmental preservation.   Urban Expansion: Alternatively, if the existing city's population surges, a new tower is built adjacent to the existing one. These two towers are interconnected with a network of walkway tubes and tunnels at various levels, fostering a sense of cohesion and collaboration between the two towers. However, this expansion often involves the demolition of certain sections of the existing city to accommodate the new tower's footprint. In some instances, as populations continue to thrive, the largest cities on Eden feature three Sky City Towers arranged in a triangular pattern. These bustling metropolises are complemented by a walled city at their base, creating an interconnected urban hub that exemplifies Eden's commitment to harmonious urban development.

Variations in Urban Development: While the Sky City Towers form the backbone of Eden's urban planning, there are exceptions to this structured and regimented approach. In places such as coastal towns, the terrain or limited space may not accommodate the construction of towers. As a result, these areas remain relatively undeveloped and maintain a more traditional, village or small town-like atmosphere.   Informal Settlements: Around some of the largest cities, outside the protective walls of the urban centers, informal settlements or "slum" towns may emerge. These settlements are often inhabited by the poorest residents, refugees, and individuals who have been unable to find or afford housing inside the city's walled boundaries.
