Duro

Duro, the ancestral homeworld of the Durus, stands as a testament to resilience and renewal. Once scarred by the brutal oppression of the Galactic Empire, this warm-temperate world has reclaimed its identity as part of the Galactic Republic. Its vast savannah plains and intricate floodplains are home to a thriving ecosystem, while its bustling cities and sprawling starports reflect the industrious spirit of its inhabitants. Despite its modern advancements, the scars of its past endure, woven into the cultural fabric of the planet.

Star System Information

The Duro system orbits a medium yellow star, stable and contains five planets:   Duro I: A small, rocky planet with no atmosphere, rich in mineral resources.
Duro II (Duro): The habitable world and system hub.
Duro III: A gas giant with rings, hosting several mining stations on its moons.
Duro IV: A frozen terrestrial planet used for research.
Duro V: A barren, outer ice dwarf.
Duro orbits comfortably in its star's habitable zone, with moderate seasons and a relatively stable climate.

Geography

Duro, the ancestral homeworld of the Durus, is a warm temperate world with no polar ice caps and no world ocean. Its landscapes are defined by vast open savannah plains and rocky, overgrown floodplains.   Duro's savannah plains—vast and expansive golden grasslands where various herbivorous creatures gracefully roam in search of sustenance. These savannahs, with their rolling hills and wide vistas, starkly contrast with the planet's other dominant and most striking feature: shallow freshwater floodplains. The floodplains serve as the heart of Duro's natural beauty, characterized by a network of plateaus, mesas, and intricate rock formations scattered throughout the watery expanse. The waters here are fresh and teeming with aquatic life, creating a unique habitat that has allowed diverse flora and fauna to flourish.

Fauna & Flora

Duro's floodplains constitute a botanical wonderland where life has evolved in harmony with the rocky terrain and freshwater streams. Among the most notable inhabitants are the large thorny bushes that sprawl across the lower floodplains. Their branches and growths twist and turn between the rock formations, creating a mesmerizing and challenging landscape to navigate. This thorny wilderness is home to numerous unique plant species with vibrant blooms and adaptations to thrive in this harsh environment.   The skies above Duro are filled with birds of various colors and sizes, their songs filling the air as they navigate the floodplain canyons. Amphibious reptiles can be spotted in the freshwater pools, their iridescent scales shimmering beneath the sun's rays. Duro's rich biodiversity has captured the imaginations of scientists and explorers alike, making it a fascinating destination for those who study the natural world.

History

Duro, the ancestral homeworld of the Durus, boasts a long and varied history. It fell under the dominating grasp of the Galactic Empire, leading to the enslavement and dispersal of the Durus across the galaxy. A once-united people found themselves scattered, and their ancestral lands were in turmoil.   Fueled by an unquenchable thirst for freedom from their Imperial masters, the Durus initiated the first rebellion. It began as simmering tension that eventually erupted into a full-blown conflict. Although ultimately crushed by the might of the Imperial Legions, this rebellion sowed the seeds of future resistance. The second rebellion concluded in tragedy as the Imperial forces resorted to nuclear weaponry to suppress the uprising. While the planet bore the scars of this devastating conflict, the resilience of Duro's ecosystem allowed it to recover over time. The third rebellion coincided with the fall of the Galactic Empire, offering the Durus a glimmer of hope. This time, they achieved a measure of success, as the collapse of the unified empire allowed many Durus to escape the shackles of slavery. Their return to Duro marked a resurgence of their ancient way of life.   As many Durus found refuge on Duro, their ancestral lands became an integral part of the Galactic Republic. A new era of unity and freedom dawned for a people who had endured centuries of hardship. While the Republic generally discourages religious beliefs, it begrudgingly tolerates the existence of religious cults. One such cult is the many smaller communities of "The Way" followers on Duro, predominantly composed of Duros living a communal life in the outback of the planet, far removed from modern luxuries and urban life.
