Helena Lekapene; Empress

History

  Her father was a general and friend of the former Emperor, and therefore built his power in Constantinople. He was from common stock, not noble and illiterate. However, all his children were well educated and trained for court intrigue and Helena was no different. Though she was the most looked-over member of their family, and worked harder than all three of her brothers to become literate, well-versed in court policies and traditions, and to have a useful skill which she kept hidden from her father. She is a master forger, learning to copy not only her father and brother's handwriting but Constantine's and several other bureaucrats.

History

They are forced to marry one another as young teenagers and Constantine doesn't care for her at first. He slowly starts to fall for her as she is smarter and kinder than he'd anticipated. Helena, on the other hand, begins to care for him more like a brother or a close friend but she never falls for him. However, she knows the relationship is important and that her children will be Emperors so she starts to soften.

History

Romanos cares for his daughter and wants to use her for his own means. Marrying her off means his family will become more powerful. This is why he marries her off to the most important man in the empire- the Emperor himself. Helena looks up to her father as the typical male-leader of the family but she never really cared about him either way. She knows he would use her to gain power and that is exactly what he does.
