Momiji
Oni of Grief
Late one evening on the day his father sought counsel from his advisors, Prince Arkos made a pact with an oni. Arkos had grown tired of his slow progression in his magical studies and was beginning to buckle under the pressure of the kingdom's expectations. He knew the risk he was taking in enlisting the help of an oni, but he also knew he needed to be better than he currently was. He performed the Calling Ritual and was answered by Momiji, a female Oni of Grief. With a sinister smile, Momiji granted Prince Arkos her power in exchange for his participation in a game. The only means of exiting the pact was correctly guessing who Momiji was grieving. Until then, Prince Arkos must treat her as an eikon. This included showing her reverence, giving her offerings, and completing quests in her name. Her favorite offering, she was sure to mention, was momiji manju.
Momiji is impish in nature, but fearsome to behold in her natural state. Her temperament is as fickle as a flame: burning read hot one moment and struggling to emit warmth the next. While Arkos tires of her presence, Momiji seems to take pleasure in her interactions with the young prince. When not in her true form, Momiji will randomly appear in her avatar state towing a mobile cart of wares. Her inventory is different in every village, so it's worth interacting with her at least once in each new location.
Momiji can only be summoned by Prince Arkos in the beginning of the campaign, but can be traded like any other summon stone once triggered through game progression. Momiji's summon gives the summoner paladin abilities that can be used twice per long rest. When the awakened ability is earned, the new paladin ability can only be used once per long rest, but there is a permanent +2 to a character's DEX score.
