Language Rules

All players will start with a translation implant, a simple program that overlays the text translation of the speaker much like subtitles. The only time one wont be able to understand a language is if someone was speaking a coded language, there was some emp or hack happening, or the extremely rare situation where you are speaking to a sentient life form that is not remotely human. However, often people might feel more comfortable with people speaking their native language.   You may in character creation choose either your racial languages as seen on the racial pages on the wiki, or you may take the language of your birth state, Trade Standard and (int mod)/2 number of languages.
  • Trade Standard (Common) - based on English, though it has absorbed many aspects of Mandarin over the years, this language was formalized to insure better trade communication and administrative communication. Though now obsolete, it is still often taught in schools all through the system.
  • Venusian (Elf)- Venusian breaks off from the Japanese language tree with many mixed speakers of Mandarin, Thai, Maylay and Korean spoken by its early settlers. The language has been standardized over the years and most Mercury born peoples speak it though with a noted accent (Wood Elf)
  • Spacer (Dwaf/Undercommon)- Space born have built a culture and language all their own, and though they don't share a nation or even a home, this language has formed by the hard working peoples on stations throughout the system.
  • Plutonian (Giant)- the people of Pluto in their isolation developed a fusion language of the staff there mixed with the shared Trade Standard
  • Martian (Orcish)- Martian nation language was initially intended to be English however time found many languages, especially Hindi, Persian, and Navajo spoken commonly on the colony blended until Martian became difficult if not sometimes impossible for the average English speaker to understand as more and more immigration came from those hit hardest by the climate crisis.
  • Titan (Draconic)- Though the mining company that founded the Titan colony was founded in England, it's language is seen as related to Bantu languages with Afrikaans dialects, being that workers on Titan were mostly (though not entirely) sourced from South and south east Africa.
  • Ionian (Gith) - Its popularity with the arts and specifically the Nue Paris movement meant most people on Io, begrudgingly, spoke French. Though it has wildly diverged from that Ionian is known as being a unique breed of Romance language.
  • Ganymedean (Kalashtar) - Ganymede was a popular destination throughout out the world, however it became a popular local especially for the South American Diasphora. As such Ganymedean has many influences, but most of all Spanish, Portuguese and many mixing indigenous languages make up the majority of it's linguistic make up. However one would not find the occasional German or Sundanese loan word unusual.
  • Europa (Triton) - Europa while containing a rich mix of linguistic characteristics across the planet due to its popularity, the climate crisis brought mostly people from the Middle east and North Africa suffering catastrophic devastation. Though many returned as resettlement of areas became common with climate restoration, many stayed, as such its language is considered part of the Semitic language family..
  • Rhean (Luxadon Language) - Though its origins of Frost Miner LLC (A Hong Kong firm) most of its workers were works from the chief backbone connects to greeco-slavic stew. Polish recruits became especially popular, eventually leading to Roman letters not Cyrillic dominating it.
  • Tritonman (goblonic) - English was the most popular language among the wealthy elite during the golden age, especially as a second language, however isolation, attempts to keep peoples home language alive in individual families, lead to a unique dialect of English.
  • Every Other Human language
