Human Species in Stelair | World Anvil

Human

Busybodies

If you were to sum up Humans in a single word, it would be impactful. From the horrors of the Forgotten War, to the fall of the Draconic Empire, and the revolution of the Trade Age. Humans have been a driving force through Stelair's history. Always seeming to be in the center of what is happening. Which is the reason why there is a cautiousness by other races toward Humans. It's because Humans are always sticking their noses into places they are not welcome. Stepping into negotiations between nations, pushing cultural issues between peoples, and attempting to "fix" problems, which ends up pulling up even more problems. Their persistence on issues is viewed as much of a curse as it is an asset.

Glue & String

Humans are very adaptable to almost any situation they find themselves in. Finding the strangest solutions to overcome the most difficult of problems they end up facing. Creating civilization, industry, trade, and even entertainment using the most convoluted of methods. However, if it works it works, and they will find ways to keep it running until it collapses. Problems arise because whatever works first is usually what is pushed forward, regardless of if there were potentially better solutions. A Human who has made something is strangely fixated on making it work. It takes a strong outside voice to convince them otherwise. This thinking can be found throughout Human civilization, a mess of glue and string holding it all together because of some very devoted people.

Biological Traits

Ranging widely from 4' 10" to 6' 11", Humans come in all shapes and sizes. They have proportional limbs to their bodies and mouths a bit wider than other races. Their ears are rounded ovals, without the sharpness of Elves or the full-on circles of Halflings. Their hair ranges from blacks to whites, but they're are some uncommon variations with reds and yellows. Humans have bodies that can be honed into surprisingly fit physical forms, but it takes a great deal of effort for them to stay in shape. Without consistent physical activity, they tend to get slower and rounder. They peak in their physical development around age 30, and their bodies slowly begin to degrade and break down from age onward. Most of these effects can be staved off with consistent exercise, but most Humans succumb to the effects of aging regardless of fitness around age 65. While still able to live fulfilling, if only slower, lives until they die at around age 85.   They reproduce like mammals. The women experience pregnancy for 9 months before their children are born. Once born they are essentially useless until age 7, having to be constantly watched and cared over. They reach maturity at age 18 but in the handful of years prior, they are still fairly capable people.   Humans make homes and thrive anywhere they can find water and food. Tending to travel great distances until they find a location they like. What is desired in a home changes radically from person to person. Once they are satisfied with a place, they will begin to exploit every available resource at their disposable to raise their standard of living. They remain active throughout the year, changing only their eating habits as the seasons change. Nothing short of extreme weather will put a Human off their normal schedule they have settled into. This does not mean that they will ignore other outside factors like invaders or diseases to continue their work, just that weather has little effect on them.

Being a traditional and role-based species, Humans tend to separate more physical jobs for men and organizational jobs for women. There isn't any sort of cultural rule against stepping outside the normal roles of your gender. But are sometimes assumptions made based on it.
