Tǎr-Nati (Tar-Nah-Tee)
Geography
Nestled between the kripligo râu river and the Teren-Okeân Divar mountains the Tǎr-Nati tar pits cover an area of 1320 Crown's stride (Roughly 1 mile) by 102.5 Crown's stride (410 feet).
Localized Phenomena
Due to the heat generated by the tar pit, the Tǎr-Nati and the surrounding region escape the harsh winters. No amount of snow accumulates on the ground, only on the roofs of the houses in the area. Even the harshest winds from the cold south lessens its bite as it crosses the pit.
Fauna & Flora
The tar pit not only encompasses a large geographical area above ground, it's effects below ground makes itself feel in a larger zone. The ground is devoid of most nutrients that flora needs. The few trees that grow and survive near the pit have a gaunt appearance, a grey-black color and no leaves or fruit ever grow.
The only vegetable that can grow in the anemic soil are potatoes. Ragweed and poison ivy, on the other hand, prosper in the Tǎr-Nati.
With flora being so sparse, the fauna is a mirror image. Only rodents, snakes and frogs survive the meager surroundings. Once in a while coyotes can be seen but the real predators are owls and crows.

History
When the king of Steeghan looked over his land and was wondering how to divide the kingdom and with whom, he knew that the Tǎr-Nati tar pit would be kept for the lord that disappointed him the most: Ferentus. His brother in law deserved nothing more than an area covered in tar.
The roles were reversed a few years later when designs for a large fleet came to be implemented. Tar became valuable for the waterproofing process. The Kings hopes of seeing his brother in law leave Steeghan with his tail between his legs were short lived.

Tourism
A few houses were prepared and set aside for visitors. Even from the kripligo râu river, the horrid smell of the tar pit could be experienced. The word spread far and wide. Hopes of a tourism boost was finished before it started.
