Personal history

Avery was born to two very religious parents in Starfell. She was a bit of a troublemaker, and had always felt different from most of her peers. She discovered why when she was 13, Avery noticed a sharp pain in her teeth, and looked in the mirror to see she had grown two small fangs. Her parents were horrified at this, believing that she was cursed by a demon, seeing her vampirism and disobedience as proof. Wanting the best for their daughter, her parents sent her to Virimbale Cathedral, hoping that life amongst the most holy and righteous would lift her curse. And so, with filed down teeth and a promise to her parents that she would tell no one of her curse, Avery became a sister of the Cathedral.   She spent 14 years at the Cathedral, bored out of her mind. The near constant worship and hiding her own nature almost drove her mad. Despite the best efforts of her superiors, Avery's unruliness never left her, always toeing the line of being expelled from the sisterhood. She would often sneak out, skip prayers, only calming her rebellion when she was thrreatened with banishment. Avery often asked herself why she stayed, and the answer always followed quick, what would her parents think if she returned after years of holy life still vampiric? Would they believe she was not a cursed child, but a demon herself? Would they surrender her to the hunters and have her culled? She thought it ironic how the Cathedral was safer for her as a vampire.   Once, while cleaning the main hall of the cathedral, Avery noticed a strange man enter, studying the walls, pillars and floor as if searching for something. She thought it unusual, but pushed it out of her mind. She had almost forgotten about him until months later. Avery had snuck out of the Cathedral at night, venturing to the more hidden parts of the city for the blood she needed, when she saw the man again, looking thoroughly out of place with his cheerful demeanor. It wasn't long before she noticed the person he was talking to, a tall woman with long dark hair. Avery was immedietely captivated by this woman, discreetly sneaking closer to eavesdrop. After listening in for a while she realised, these people were cultists. Part of her wanted to return back to the Cathedral, afterall, cultist matters never ended well, the stories of the war had told her that much. But another voice in her head spoke up, this could be her way out of the church- her escape to freedom.   When the pair concluded their meeting and split apart, Avery followed the woman as she slipped through the alleys, but her signature sneakiness was not infallible, and soon the woman turned to question her. The usually quick witted Avery found herself stuttering, no excuse or story coming to her mind as the woman glared at her. Instead, she admitted she had been evesdropping, and revealing her status as a nun and a vampire. Avery pleaded to the cultist to let her join, desperate to be around other 'unholy' people like herself.
