Hello Friendy Wends!
Our adventure begins in the bustling pit stop town of Admontem Pass during the celebration to mark the coronation of a new High King of the Encalve of the North. Such celebrations will be taking place across all nations in the Enclave to mark the occasion, but as the new High King hails from the Dwarven Kingdoms the festivities will be fairly subdued in the lands outside this region, as is the case in Admontem Pass, nevertheless, the atmosphere is generally quite jovial.
What is generating quite a buzz is the impending visit of the Master Guardian of Sylvasker, Torzana Springaze. They are set to meet with Osrick Mantle, a bigwig industrialist in the Mantle business Dynasty - a prominent wealthy family in the Freeholds who made their initial fortune via “Mantles Pieces” a toy-making company which later switched to weapon construction. Osrick had spent a great deal of time criticising Torzana Springaze and the Kin of the Ivied Shrines - the Druidic Order who, nominally, govern the nation of Sylvasker and this visit is intended to mend relations.
During the public meeting – Osrik announced that the Ivied Shrines (with Mantle Family help) had captured a notorious serial killer in Sylvasker much to the dismay of Torzana Springaze. However, as the Master Guardian began to play down the situation the sky turned black – green fabric fell twisting from the sky like curtains revealing a black tiefling. The tiefling slashed the throat of Osrik while shouting “Time to play, Ozzy!” before disappearing in a flash of green.
The chaos sent the crowd into a frenzied panic and our heroes, most of whom had yet to meet, found themselves bundled into a jail cell for their safety. After the panic had subsided Neb, Nemo, Aria and The Inteloper introduced themselves before discovering STU, a warforged who had been put in the jail cell due to the lack of humanoid accompaniment.
After some discussion, the group unnecessarily broke free from their jail cell and, after being reprimanded for doing so by the Head Town Guard the group were free to explore the town.
Upon exploration they discovered that the black tiefling was indeed the serial killer who was supposed to have been captured. They also found the town notice board with several opportunities to make money/connections in the town.
First and foremost the group rescued Misty the cat from a well for the Treemound family and gained a small pearl pendant as payment.
Nemo investigated a musicians wanted notice in The Respite – an upmarket Tavern. Upon investigating Nemo discovered that it was actually a front for some sort of blood bank – hired thugs would forcibly extract blood from musicians for a client who believed they could gain the talent of these musicians via blood transfusion. The perpetrators of this crime did go to gather some bribe money for Nemo and the rest of the group but they left before they could return for some reason. This probably would have panicked the criminals.
The group investigated a dive bar called The Boozehouse which seemed to be offering work however it transpired that underground fighting for money was involved and none of the group apart from The Interloper were equipped for this. The Interloper was hesitant.
The party visited Broadpeak’s Alchemical Solutions ran by a strange gnome named Roody Broadpeak and his “nephew” Louie which seemed to be a ventriloquist dummy which spoke in slow simple sentences. He tasked the group with finding some Meltcups which were near the protected wilds and some pterodactyl eggs – which as one would imagine were in pterodactyl nests in the winged terror mountains. He would pay the group for each item gathered.
Finally, the party visited the Mantle estate and met with Denna Mantle – daughter of the late Osrick Mantle. She gave the group a courier task. The party neede to meet up with Mantle’s other courier to obtain a large wagon, about 2 day’s travel away then bring that wagon to a barn a few miles north west of Admontem Pass. Deliver the wagon and a letter from Denna Mantle to the contact there. She would pay 75gp each for the job.
The group named themselves the “People’s Courier Service” as a result of this job. A decision that they may want to reconsider but it's up to them I suppose…
Upon journeying to the retrieval spot for the wagon the PCS found a human male caught in a trap. Aria recognised his uniform from the Straight Arrow Detective agency. The group freed him and the man introduced himself as Jonah Ranger. He informed the group he was on his way to the Pass due to Osrick’s murderer and was distracted by the call of a lost child. That’s when he was caught in that illegal claw trap. Jonah has been tasked with finding the serial killer who he reveals is know as ‘Horizon’. He informed the group that Horizon is known to have also killed 3 other people: a homeless John Doe, young woman from Planisum and the third he cannot disclose. He bid the group goodbye and continued on his journey. The PCS fought off a pack of raptors. As they continued on they found more illegal traps for animals. They also noticed some of the birds seemed to be watching them. At the base of a mountain path, the PCS met with the courier and obtained the wagon. The group immediately pull the tarp off the wagon which resulted in a burst of thick black ink coating them. In the wagon is patterned fur from endangered species, vials of pixie drop and other illegal goods. The group also noticed a striking dagger with a branded logo of three claws. The PCS attempted to was the ink off in a stream and decided that they would say the tarp accidentally came off or they were attacked by bandits or something.
The PCS then proceeded to the Hall of the Dead to procure meltcups which were supposedly found there. Upon journeying there the group found a pocket watch which seemed to depict personalised horrors to whoever viewed it – Nemo, Aria, and Neb looked at it. Travelling further toward the Hall of the Dead the PCS increasingly detected the presence of evil in the forest. They noticed the birds were now almost exclusively crows, all of which were watching them intently with green and yellow eyes. Aria casted speak with animals to find that the crows seemed to have gone insane. One of them warned: “Be careful; Shepard is watching”. The crow detailed how an entity named The Shepard made Horizon insane but “he escaped Uncle and now Horizon has more power.” The crow informed Aria that Horizon can move through the sky to get into the protected woods. The crow also informed her that Horizon escaped from a plane known as the Play Pens an otherworldly place but was also somehow in the trees. The crow agreed to be put out of its misery and Aria snapped its neck. Upon arriving at the Hall of the Dead the group managed to gather a lot of meltcups with only a few injuries sustained (the meltcups would spit acid if picked carelessly) and explored the Hall of the Dead. The group explored the Halls of Dead and after getting past a fireball trap managed to enter into a musty forgotten study with a skeleton hunched over a tome. The tome in front of the skeleton made further mention of Sheperd and crows.
The party then began travelling back. They set up camp for the night when suddenly Neb, STU and The Inteloper entered a state of catatonic unconsciousness. During this state they shared a dream or mental image of a stage with dark green curtains. On a green chair sat a yellow, tattered stuffed teddy bear with antlers and a birds skull sticking out of where the bears face should be. The entity introduced itself as Uncle Pally Wal. Uncle Pally Wal informs the group that he and his friends have taken residence in the Protected Wilds. They do not wish for gods or government to know about them but this has come under threat due to the escape of Horizon from the Play Pen which has put them in jeopardy. Uncle Pally Wal warns the group to kill Horizon or he and his friends will torment the group. Uncle Pally Wal says they just want to exist and they don’t want to be destroyed because that means they’ll get sucked back into the “Timey-Wimey Zone”. If the group come looking for the Play Pen then Shepherd will make sure they find it. STU, Aria and The Interloper all snapped out of this vision.
A few seconds later a disembodied voice could be heard asking “Who wants to play?”
Then suddenly night became broad daylight.
