02 Stone and Water

Set the Scene

Izel rests up and tries to reestablish radio communication with the outpost. hoping the storm will end and the outpost will dry out. If they don't get confirmation the outpost is lost they feel like going and playing the hero will cement them a place in this society. Tatu thinks they are crazy but is perfectly happy to let Izel go get themselves killed and leave the ship to her by default.

Complication: 4 An NPC acts suddenly

Altered Scene: 1 Normal

Tatu is planning to take the ship immediately, but Izel suspects this and sets up a Deadman switch in the ship so it won't leave the atmosphere while they are still alive. Tatu plays innocent like they would never consider such betrayal. Izel and Tatu both laugh and bond a bit over their frenemy status.

Arcana 16 - Izel fabricates a reusable combat stim in preparation

Yes/No (Even)

Is it still storming?

5,6 Yes and...

It is still storming outside and possibly is even gotten worse, it's hard to tell.

Yes/No (Unlikely)

Have the miners established radio communication?

3,4 No

The radio is useless in this ferocious electrical storm.

Izel swims out of the flooded quarry and onto a platform entrance into a flooded building with a conveyor belt leading into a crate room and a door leading further into the complex. A foot locker floats in the center of the room.

Izel loots the foot locker and finds a set of ultra hefty miner clothing with a built in motion detector intended for monitoring seismic activity but capable of tracking bugs just as well and a straight up set of combat plate armor that looks locally made and is only slightly more protective than the heavy miner gear. Both are too heavy for Izel to wear, but could be deconstructed for pixels or maybe for Tatu. She had some pretty hefty armor back on Palehaven.

Izel continues on the foot path into a workshop with a flooded pixel printer, a large workbench and a variety of tools. on the workbench is a survivor leveling a pistol at them in fear, looks like they have been stuck here for a while.

A rugged looking Hylotl ironically trying to stay dry up on the workbench. They are big and look like they could easily fit into that armor Izel just found. They are alone up here but are normally in charge of security. the other miners were sheltering on the second level, apparently this is the third, which is now completely flooded. They seem both distressed and vengeful at the weather itself and this world.

They are better armed and armored than Izel and could be a real asset to clearing the upper levels and looking for other survivors. At minimum they should get back to the ship.

Diplomacy 13 - Izel convinces them to gear up and help sweep using that handy motion detector and firearm. oh and the hatred, that part is very useful in the short term.

The conveyor in the quarry access room leads up a sharp incline to a material silo. the miner shares it is the highest point in the complex and the most likely place for survivors and hopefully inside the silo is a dry space for bugs where they won't bother them. hopefully.

However that steep climb is full of loose stone, wet and currently under assault by high winds.

Izel uses their personal tractor beam to slowly clear the belt of stone to make the now only difficult climb and scan the area for bugs and survivors. Athletics 12 - Izel and the miner scale the silo belt and scan for movement.

The silo itself is filled with stone and the perpetual movement of a power cell bearing. Something inside might be extremely valuable if it's not destroyed already. but also inside something else is moving ...

Yes/No (Even)

Adversary?

6,1 Yes but...

two giant hopper bugs...

but also the body of a survivor hiding deeper in the stone pile.

Competence 4 - The Miner guard ambushes one of the two hoppers successfully downing it with a hateful barrage of lead.

Izel successfully snipes the other mid air and it thuds against the wall of the silo harmlessly.

A very beefy Floran miner climbs out of the silo and thanks Jiro, apparently that is the name of the security guard ... Izel should really start asking for those pesky names in the future.

An average looking human still wearing military fatigues loosely over their miner gear. They look at Izel and nod. Then climb back down the silo without saying a word.

The connected canopy connects to a few other trees and is full of bugs. Nothing needs here, it is unlikely the survivors jumped into this nearby tree, and the kitchen scraps and tools floating around are only useful to the miners. Izel sends everyone back to the ship.

clue 8 - Izel pokes around with their scanner to find what the power cell bearing belonged to but it has since been destroyed in the stone pile before the conveyor stopped.

Izel re joins the others at the ship and waits out the storm.

How long until the storm stops?

6 Extraordinary

After a week the storm is still raging and the miners decide to abandon the site. They try and salvage the waterlogged pixel printer but there just isn't room on the tiny cruiser.
