Count Dooku Serenno (a.k.a. Darth Tyranus)
It was a great blow to the Jedi order when Count Dooku voluntarily renounced his commission. A strong-minded man, Dooku's ideas were often out of step with those of the Jedi Council, despite the fact that his former mentor, Yoda, held a lofty position in that governing body. His challenging views are often echoed by his former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, another Jedi who will on occasion defy the Council.
Dooku is a political idealist. He feels that the Jedi weaken themselves by serving an institution as corrupt as the Republic. After his departure, he disappeared for years, re-emerging, recently, as a political firebrand fanning the flames of rebellion in the galaxy. In an alarmingly short time, Dooku has rallied thousands of systems to his cause, building a growing Separatist movement that threatens to split the Republic.
Opportunists working in Dooku's name will start flashpoints of violence, and it is all the Jedi can do to maintain order in these turbulent times. For all the strife, the Jedi Council refuses to believe that Dooku is personally responsible for the worst of the conflicts, believing that his Jedi training elevates him above such acts.
But the Jedi don't realize Dooku's secret. Behind a veneer of elegant charisma and well-tabled political arguments, Dooku has been corrupted by the power of the dark side. After his departure from the Jedi order, Dooku was seduced to the dark side by Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith. By Sith tradition, Dooku adopted the name Darth Tyranus and added deceit and treachery to his already formidable array of weapons.

When Dooku was 13 years old, he was chosen to be the Padawan apprentice to Jedi Master Thame Cerulian. This drove a wedge between Dooku and his childhood friend and fellow Jedi learner, Lorian Nod. Nod was also headstrong and mischievous, and he tried to blame Dooku for the theft of a Sith Holocron. This led to a long-lasting rivalry between the two, and to Nod's expulsion from the Jedi Temple.
Until he was in his early 60s, Jedi Master Dooku Serenno was loyal to the Order, even if he was frustrated with what he saw as corruption in the leadership by following a corrupt republic. When he was 61, he met Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of Naboo At his father's funeral on Serenno. Over the next two years, Palpatine steadily corrupted the thoughts of the vulnerable (from the death of his father) Jedi, who was torn between his duty to the Jedi Order and his duty to the people of his home planet. Serenno had fallen into chaos with petty Warlords staking claim to the rulership of the planet and fighting each other with various indirect warfare methods, and the Galactic Senate and the Jedi Order were standing by and allowing it to play out.
Palpatine played on the Jedi's fears by refering often to the chaos on Dooku's planet in private conversations, and dropping hints that a strong leader, one with the force as his ally, could bring peace and order to Serenno. Meanwhile, he funded many of the Warlords to keep the fighting happening, while he outwardly petitioned the Senate to send aid while he inwardly sabotaged those efforts by blackmailing senators into voting down public aid, and relegating the issue to a "Planetary Government Matter." The majority in the Senate voted that if Serenno wanted aid, they could ask for it, and since they hadn't, it was outside the jurisdiction of the Republic to interfere.
Inwardly this inaction while innocent people paid the price for it, infuriated the Jedi Master, and Palpatine could sense it. He fed that anger until one day, two years later, Dooku handed over his Lightsaber and "went home to end the fighting". Palpatine used the oportunity to give Dooku a Bloodshine Kyber crystal of sufficient quality to create a new lightsaber and quietly revealed to him some Sith secrets to help him end the Warlords. By the time he finished with the Warlords, he was Darth Tyranus, apprentice to Darth Sidious.

The entirety of his education came from the Jedi Order until his early 60s when he left the order to reclaim his title as Count of Serenno, with the death of his father at 91. Since then, he has been educated by the astute politicians of Serenno, and has rallied over 4000 systems to the separatist cause. His Jedi education began at infancy and continued until he was 63, when he succumbed to the Darkside, and left the order.

Mental Trauma
The darkside fed him nightmares of the imagined horrors going on on Serenno, and he was driven to embrace his outrage and kill all 7 Warlords, their families, and henchmen, he even went as far as to destroy any droids that worked for a warlord.
