Weapon Qualities

Weapon Group A weapon's group tells you which Weapon Proficiency feat you need to be considered proficient with the weapon. If you don't have the appropriate Weapon Proficiency, you take a -5 penalty on attacks made with the weapon.
Size The size of the weapon. See the article on weapon sizes for further information.
Mag | Ammo (Source for Energy Weapons)
  • Mag → The given name of the container that holds projectiles (e.g., clip, quiver, etc).
  • Ammo → The given name of the projectiles (e.g., bullets, arrows, quarrels, etc).
  • Source → The power supply necessary for the operation of energy weapons (e.g., power pack, energy cell, etc).
Capacity The number of projectiles that a given mag can hold, or the number of shots that can be fired before the power supply for an energy weapon needs to be replaced.
Damage The damage the weapon deals with each hit. Melee Weapons also add the wielder's Strength bonus to damage, or twice the wielder's Strength bonus when wielded in two hands.
  • Double Weapons have two damage entries separated by a slash; these represent the damage dealt by each end of the Double Weapon.
Damage Type The type of damage a weapon deals. Some creatures and objects take more or less damage from weapons that deal certain types of damage. Some weapons deal more than one type of damage, depending on how the weapon is used:
  • And: The weapon deals both types of damage simultaneously.
  • Or: The weapon deals one type of damage or the other, chosen immediately before making the attack roll.
  • >> Double Weapons sometimes deal a different damage type depending on which end of the weapon is used: in this case the two damage types are separated by a slash.
  • (Ion): Ion Weapons have special rules and effects. See Ion Damage for more details.
Target Describes the scope of the attack of a weapons, such as single or area attack.
Accuracy This field provides information when a weapon has some feature related to its accuracy such as:
  • It cannot fire at a particular range.
  • No range penalties are taken at a particular range.
  • Other.
Rate of Fire Ranged weapons have either a single-shot setting (S) or an Autofire setting (A). A few weapons have both settings and can be set to either single-shot mode or Autofire mode as a Swift Action. Only Ranged Weapons that hold multiple shots of ammunition can have an Autofire setting.
  • A weapon can only be on one alternate setting other than its default setting (such as Autofire or Stun) at a time. Autofire-only weapons with Stun settings can deal Stun damage in Autofire mode, but still have a maximum range of 6 squares, unless noted otherwise.
Other When relevant, this field provides information regarding other special features a weapon may have.
Stun Setting If the weapon has a Stun Setting, it is listed here. A weapon set to Stun does Stun damage equal to its normal damage.
  • Ranged Weapons set to Stun have a maximum range of 6 squares, unless noted otherwise.
Range Chart
Cost The weapon's average base cost in credits. The exact price may vary depending on a number of factors including location, recent events, buyer reputation, etc.
Weight The weapon's weight in kilograms.
Rarity {Filler letters}
  1. Common
  2. Uncommon
  3. Rare
  4. Extraordinary
  5. Legendary
Accessibility Some objects require licenses to own or operate, or are restricted to qualifying organizations or individuals. In such cases, a character must pay a license fee to own the object legally. A license fee is a separate expense, purchased in addition to the object to which it applies. The four restriction ratings are as follows:
  1. Unlicensed: There are no legal requirements to own the item.
  2. Licensed: The owner must obtain a license to own or operate the object legally. Generally, the license is not expensive, and obtaining it has few if any additional legal requirements.
  3. Restricted: Only specifically qualified individuals or organizations are technically allowed to own the object. Those with sufficient patience and cash can typically get their hands of restricted items if they're comfortable with a degree of risk.
  4. Military: The object is sold primarily to legitimate police and military organizations. A military rating is essentially the same as restricted, except that manufacturers and dealers are generally under tight government scrutiny and are therefore especially wary of selling to private individuals.
  5. Illegal: The object is illegal in all but specific, highly regulated circumstances.
Vendor This field describes the types of vendors where an item is likely to be found.
  1. Thrift: Found in stores that were once common, but have fallen out of fashion or utility. Some outdated places in the galaxy might have more of these items than more modern places.
  2. Standard: Items that can be easily found at a variety of locations across much of the galaxy.
  3. Intermediate / Specialized: Items that are more difficult to find than those with standard designation. In some cases, finding such items might require locating a specialty store.
  4. High-end: Less common, more expensive, and more difficult to access.
  5. Exclusive: Only accessible to specific groups or people.
  6. Direct from Manufacturer Only (DFM)
Availability While accessibility describes the regulations around a given item, and rarity intuitively describes how common an item is, availability—on the other hand—gives an item's sale or production authorization status. Although it may sound similar to legality described by accessibility, there are a few key distinctions:
  • An object might be perfectly legal and common, but the government, manufacturer, or other party of influence may have chosen to restrict further production or sales of the item going forward. Maybe it has been produced for a long time, and can be found across the universe, but production freezes have created an increase in demand, and consequently prices. Such an item would be designated "common" by the rarity field, "unlicensed" by the accessibility field, and "standard" or "intermediate" by the vendor field. Thus, the situation revolving such an item would not be satisfactorily illustrated by the rarity, accessibility, and vendor designations alone. By adding the "controlled" designator here within the availability field, the item's story can be told more completely.
  • Additionally, an item could be completely removed from the open market without having been made illegal. In that case the accessibility could be given as "unlicensed", while the availability could be given as "withheld".
  • The availability field has no relationship to the requirements of prospective owners of a given item. Instead, this field describes the action of the controlling forces behind the item itself. In essence, accessibility describes the action of clients seeking the item while availability describes the action of the mercent, retailer, or government behind the distribution of the item.
  The designations:
  1. Open: No reduction in the availability of the item.
  2. Controlled: The item has not been removed from the market, but there has intentionally been a reduction in its production or sale. The motivation behind such a decision can vary between the actions of government, manufacturer, suppliers, etc.
  3. Locally Determinant: These items may be more or less available in certain areas. Such outcomes can be accidental, happenstance, or calculated.
  4. Reclaimed: Generally old items that are being sought by their original owners or manufacturer. Participation can be mandatory, optional, or incentivized. This could be recalls due to faulty products, it could be a government collecting an old technology or resource of theirs they want out of public hands without resorting to legal action, it could be a government buy-back program aimed to incentivize the return of a controversal weapon, or a number of other variations.
  5. Withheld: This designation describes a complete freeze of an item. All such items must be removed from sale, and any display or marketing must cease. In some cases retrieval of items may take place as well. There may also be items that received this designation before every having been sold.
