Rontos were four-legged saurian herbivores native to the desert world of Tatooine. Skittish yet gentle and strong, they were the favored pack animals and mounts of the indigenous Jawas.
Because of their skittishness off-world traders rarely acquired rontos.

Genetics and Reproduction
When in heat, female rontos gave off a powerful, musky scent much like the smell of a Rodian. During mating season, Rodians on Tatooine were encouraged to stay away from male rontos, lest they inadvertently become the target of a ronto's affections.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Although the rontos were well adapted to handle sandstorms and other Tatooine weather, the giant creatures required a great deal of water to survive any trip through the desert. Proper preparation would be that much more important for a traveler relying on a ronto(s).

Uses, Products & Exploitation
- Easily domesticated, rontos were utilized by the Jawas as mounts and as beasts of burden to haul cargo between trading posts.These animals were loyal to their masters, and were both gentle and strong.
- Rontos were the favorite pack animal of the Jawas.
- Like the native dewbacks of Tatooine, ronto were easy to train and became quite fond of their masters, whose faces they associated with food.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
- Standing on four legs, rontos had small eyes, pointed ears, and beak-like mouths. They had excellent hearing and a superb sense of smell, but poor eye sight, which meant they could be startled easily.
- Rontos could hear sounds in the range of 32 kHz.
