Butcherbug

Fauna: Invertebrate: Arthropod: Chelicerate: Arachnid

Butcherbugs were a very small arachnid species native to Dagobah.    Butcherbugs lived in the lower parts of Dagobah's jungle, spinning very sharp, micro-fine webs between fallen branches and tree roots (including the roots of adult gnarltrees) to snare and slice prey, like Jubba Birds, to bits. The web was so sharp that it was invisible to the naked Human eye.   Because of their small size, butcherbugs were prey for a number of larger species, such as lesser bogwings.   Covered in a bright green chitinous shell, the butcherbug's two interlocking mandibles could be used to pick up and tear flesh.

Basic Information

Anatomy

On its own a butcherbug posed no harm, however, once hardened, their silk became razor sharp. A creature who ran into a butcherbug's hardened web would not be captured, but instead torn to shreds. Larger animals were at lower risk, but even a human sized being could be seriously injured if moving through the web with enough speed.
