Thermal Detonator

About the size of a common frag grenade, thermal detonators are one of the most potent and feared destructive devices in the galaxy. Instead of a standard explosive core, thermal detonators use materials such as baradium to create a massive fusion detonation.   This blast releases a burst of deadly radioactive particles, heat, and a shock wave that completely annihilates everything in the blast area. Thermal detonators are highly unstable and are often as much a danger to their users as their targets. Due to their instability and their sheer destructive potential, thermal detonators are strictly prohibited on many worlds. They have a reputation throughout the galaxy as terror weapons.   Thermal detonators can be set to detonate on impact or after a delay of up to 3 rounds by using the built-in timer. When used in delay mode, thermal detonators explode at the beginning of the attacker’s turn when they reach their set time. Also, most thermal detonators are equipped with a dead man’s switch, like that of frag grenades. Finally, thermal detonators are so potent that their Blast quality affects everyone and everything within short range of its intended target.

Any Despair result on a check involving a thermal detonator means that the device explodes prematurely. If this should occur, the wielder takes full damage from the thermal detonator unless he has a maneuver with which he can attempt to avoid the blast. If this is the case, the wielder takes only the Blast damage from the explosion.
