Star Wars Deflector Shields

DEFLECTOR SHIELDS

Ray Shields -

Used to absorb radiation and raw energy, as opposed to particle shields, which repelled solid objects. These shields block blaster fire from one side, and as they are given more power it becomes more and more difficult for solid objects to pass through the shield. Slow moving objects may pass but the speed depends on the strength of the shield.   If powered up enough they can shock any phsyical object trying to pass through it. However these shields have a high Burnout time and require large amounts of energy.   The Power Sources for these shields also release high amounts of radiation to those in close range, making them a danger to any organic using them as a personal shield.   Organics will receive heavy radiation poisoning after 1 minutes of use.     Examples: Drodieka shield, Dual of the Fates shields, Echo Base Shield on Hoth

[color:#ffffff]Personal Deflector Shields -

[/color] A Ray shield modified to protect the wearer from the Ray Shield's Radiation that worked as a defensive technology. It projected a field of energy that protected the user from blaster fire, the elements, or other hazards. Most were small enough to be worn on a belt or arm.   As with most deflector systems, shields required large amounts of energy in the form of energy cells or a portable shield generator. Some models featured rechargeable energy cells. While the generator provided the most efficiency, it was larger and bulkier. As with all Ray shields they had a high burn out causing them to only be used when combat was expected.   Typically, the standard energy shield was only effective against energy attacks, such as blaster bolts. However, other variants created by the Mandalorians and Echani could block melee attacks, while other shields developed by the Arkanians and Verpine, and other cultures, were capable of resisting a variety of different attacks, including electrical, kinetic, cold, heat, and sonic damage.   Another feature of personal shields was ablation, that is, the shield weakened as it absorbed damage until it either was deactivated, failed, or recharged.     Extremely Rare, and Expensive

Particle Shields -

Blocked physical objects such as projectiles and space debris. Diffused impacts from high-velocity projectiles and proton weapons, Frequently used as planetary shields. Can be used to contain prisoners. Requires Massive power source.   Example: Scariff's Planetary Shield, Death Star Shield

Other Shields

Magnetic Shield -

A type of electromagnetic field that was generated in order to contain atmosphere or other gaseous substances within a certain space. Magnetic fields were used throughout the galaxy to contain the atmosphere within starship hangars
Example: Hangar Bay Fields

Thermal Shield -

Thermal shields could deflect laser and projectile fire and could withstand a direct hit from a volley of torpedoes. Once down, the shields could not be raised again until fully recharged. Does not allow objects to pass out of shield.

Hydrostatic Shield

Created with plasma from Naboo's porous crust and bubble wort extract. With those membranes, the Gungans created habitation bubbles that not only kept water out and contained breathable atmospheres, but also allowed individuals to pass through at special portal zones.
Example: Gungan Shields, Gungan Habitation Bubbles

Magnetogravitic Shield

A basic starship protection system that kept a ship from burning while traveling at near lightspeed. The system's function was to deflect minute particles away from the ship's hull. It could also operate inside the ship instead of outside in order to secure its cargo.
Ray Shields

Above: A DSS-02 Ray Shield generator was produced by Kuat Drive Yards. The shield was strong enough to withstand bombardment from an Executor-class Star Dreadnought and a flotilla of Imperial-class Star Destroyers.     -   Personal Deflector Shield
