This past week saw the outbreak of war between the Galactic Republic, and the fledgling Confederacy of Independent Systems. In the midst of the Jedi investigation of Senator Amidala's attempted assassination, they seem to have stumbled upon the mostly alien Separatist Conspiracy, which played a large part in organizing the attempts. Among the conspirators was Viceroy Nute Gunray, a known extremist with great influence in the Trade Federation. Count Dooku of Serenno, the elected leader of the Separatist Council seemed to be in negotiations with the alien leaders of several worlds, conspiring to launch an attack on the Republic.
After abducting Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker and Senator Amidala, Jedi Master Mace Windu led a jedi attack to rescue them. The Jedis' tactics however led to the death of 80% of there assault force, only being saved by the Chancellor's new Clone Army. The clone army proved greatly effective against the simple battle droids. They secured the planet of Geonosis, and now press out in the Galaxy, pushing back the droids at every turn.
Although Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and even Senator Amidala acted valiantly during the battle, the Jedis role in the battle lacked impact. The Clone Army (approved thanks to the emergency powers bestowed to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine) proved greatly effective against the simple battle droids. The alien conspirators escaped due to the Jedis' weak initial assault, although Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi's efforts nearly saved the Jedi effort to end the war. Hopefully the Clone Army will continue to prove effective against the nearly endless battle droids wielded by the C.I.S.
Thanks to the senate's efforts, emergency powers have now been bestowed to the Chancellor. This immense investiture will allow decisive action against the Separatist powers, as the indecisive nature of the Senate, and lack of action by the Jedi has allowed such a crisis to fester. With a strong personality at the head of the Republic, we can count on a strong course of action.
