Reputation System Overview
Reputation System Overview
Reputation is a living metric that tracks how different factions, individuals, and artificial intelligences perceive members of the Heimdahl crew. It is influenced by a character’s choices, actions, and allegiances. Reputation is not fixed—it is earned, spent, or lost depending on mission outcomes, ethics, and politics. This document expands on the official Star Trek Adventures (STA) system, scaling its mechanics up to a 0–100 range for more granular faction tracking.
Core Reputation Scale
This system scales the STA Reputation (0–5) to a 0–100 system. Reputation is tracked independently for each major faction. A higher score reflects trust, reliability, or favor, while a lower score represents suspicion, risk, or hostility.
Scaled Rep | Equivalent (RAW) | Description |
---|---|---|
100–95 | 5 | Exemplary reputation, direct access to top-level privileges and authority. |
94–80 | 4 | High trust and strategic value; grants frequent favors and access. |
79–60 | 3 | Trusted operative; generally positive standing. |
59–40 | 2 | Neutral to favorable; reputation still forming or mildly established. |
39–20 | 1 | Sceptical; closely watched and given minor leeway. |
19–0 | 0 | Untrusted; under scrutiny or disavowed. May be targeted or investigated. |
Reputation Rolls (Mechanical Checks)
Use the following system when rolling Reputation-based tests (as per STA rules):
- Roll a d20 vs (7 + Reputation Tier), based on the 0–5 RAW value.
- If the result is below the target number, score 1 success.
- If the result is equal to or below the Reputation score itself, score 2 successes.
This allows the system to plug directly into standard task resolution mechanics.
Faction Reputation Tracking
Each crew member and Heimdahl itself track reputation with the following entities:
- Federation Council (UFP) – Legislative and diplomatic standing.
- Starfleet – Operational and command-level trust.
- Starfleet Intelligence – Covert standing and access.
- Section 31 – Hidden value, only revealed under specific conditions.
- Major Factions:
- Romulan Star Empire / Free State / Tal Shiar - There are those that wish to rebuild the old.
- Cardassian Union / Obsidian Order - Looking for that one thing that'll make them relevant again.
- Klingon Imperial Empire / Klingon Intelligence / various Houses - They are a complex lot.
- Borg Collective (Remnant) / Cooperative (Freed) - While the Collective doesn't act in unity. The Cooperative just wants to live.
- Dominion - Being perceived as gods and falling from grace - doesn't just go away.
- Minor Factions:
- Maquis Remnants – Cells and survivors still active.
- Ferengi Alliance – Reputation among commercial and criminal circles.
- Fenris Rangers – Rogue operatives maintaining post-neutral zone order.
- Other minor groups as introduced in-play.
Earning and Losing Reputation (Scaled Actions)
Action | Rep Gain/Loss (Scaled) |
---|---|
Complete a major mission | +10 to +30 |
Secure a diplomatic success | +10 to +20 |
Rescue an important figure | +20 to +30 |
Leak data or ignore chain of command | -20 to -40 |
Kill or sabotage a faction member | -30 to -60 |
Disobey mission directives | -10 to -30 |
Steal or tamper with faction resources | -10 to -25 |
Spending Reputation (Scaled Costs)
Action | Rep Cost (Scaled) | Effect |
---|---|---|
Requesting high-level faction support or assets | -20 to -40 | Special resources or transport. |
Political leverage or emergency clearance | -30 to -50 | Overrides diplomatic blocks. |
Fast-track promotion or Starfleet backing | -40 to -60 | Gain temporary authority or rank leverage. |
Override mission parameters | -30 to -50 | Operate outside normal bounds. |
Final Notes
This reputation model mirrors and expands the STA 2e system, enabling rich, modular play where actions carry long-term political weight. The 0–100 scale allows for visible incremental shifts, while still supporting mechanical integration with STA's core mechanics. Reputation isn't just a number—it shapes the relationships, mission outcomes, and future of the crew.
