Borg Collective / Cooperative

The Borg Collective in Shadows of the Galaxy

The Borg Collective was a vast cybernetic empire, assimilating species and technologies to achieve perfection. Once the greatest existential threat to the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, the Borg were ultimately crippled when their Queen was destroyed, and the Collective collapsed.

A Fractured Legacy

With the Queen’s demise and the collapse of interlinking transwarp hubs, the once-mighty Borg Collective has fractured. Some Borg simply shut down, others turned feral, operating as disconnected drones with malfunctioning directives. But the greatest danger lies in what was left behind:
  • Dormant Unicomplexes – Abandoned Borg facilities may still contain terrifying secrets or partially functional AI remnants.
  • Stranded Drones – Some Borg survivors still cling to their old programming, attempting to rebuild micro-Collectives.
  • Salvaged Borg Technology – Various factions, including the Federation, Romulans, and Cardassians, seek to harness the power of Borg technology for their own gain.

The Rise of the Cooperative

With the Borg’s collapse, many formerly assimilated individuals regained their free will. These Freed Borg formed Cooperative, a new organization dedicated to aiding other ex-drones and preventing the rise of another Collective.
  • Humanitarian Aid – The Cooperative actively seeks out and rehabilitates stranded Borg.
  • Technology Suppression – They work to destroy or neutralize dangerous Borg relics before they can be weaponized.
  • Tensions with Major Powers – While the Cooperative’s mission is noble, many governments see them as an unstable faction with access to dangerous tech.

The Heimdahl’s Involvement

Given the Heimdahl’s classified operations, it’s only a matter of time before they encounter Borg remnants. Possible conflicts include:
  • Competing Salvage Operations – The Romulans and Cardassians will stop at nothing to control Borg technology.
  • Cooperative Intervention – The Heimdahl’s missions may put them at odds with the Cooperative, which sees Borg tech as too dangerous to be used, even for defensive purposes.
  • A Greater Threat? – Is it truly over? Or do whispers of a new Borg intelligence emerging in the darkness hold a terrifying truth?
  • I Found This Tech – Some unfortunate soul—whether a rogue scientist, pirate, or overambitious officer—stumbles upon a piece of Borg technology they either don’t understand or wish to claim for power and fame. Whether by accident or design, their interference could unleash something far beyond their control.
  • Borg Cults – Fringe groups worshipping Borg technology as the key to perfection are surfacing. Some seek to reactivate dormant Borg machinery, while others desire assimilation willingly. Their growing influence could spell disaster.
  • Black Market Trade – Powerful individuals and factions see Borg remnants as the ultimate prize, funding clandestine efforts to extract, modify, and weaponize their remains. The Heimdahl may be tasked with shutting down illegal operations before they spiral out of control.

The Collective May Be Dead… But Its Shadow Remains

While the Borg as they once were no longer exist, their legacy of destruction, technology, and fear still shapes the galaxy. Heimdahl’s missions may bring them face-to-face with this legacy—whether it be rogue drones, secret experiments, or the looming possibility of something new rising from the ashes.
