A human scientist by the name of Alden Bushweed proposed an experiment using magic-propulsion engines on a grander scale to travel into space.

After observing some high-speed magic-propulsion planes fly overhead on his lunch break, revered scientist Dr. Alden Bushweed had a thought: what if one were to dial the speed up even further, to the point where they reach a velocity fast enough to escape the Earth's gravitational pull. He proposed this idea to a committee/meeting of the Church of Coraga Deacons, and was met with a mixed reaction from them, with one important question hanging over everyone's head: how would one breath beyond the atmosphere? The answer, Bushweed stated, would be that they take some air with them, and keep the vessel airtight.

The Deacons approved this experiment, provided Bushweed could design a prototype to show The Global Confederation in order to convince them to fund this experiment. When it was proposed to them, they had one very important question: why would one want to travel beyond Earth?

Bushweed's answer was given in a speech to the public, given in order to persuade some of them to his side: "Some of you wonder why we would need to leave this beloved planet when all we could possibly want is right here. But I ask you this: have you never wondered what lies beyond this world? If there is other life out there? Strange materials and magics not yet known, which could advance our knowledge by decades still? We will never know the answer to these questions if we don't take the steps to answer them! Some might ask 'Why?', but I will always respond: 'Why not?'"

The final voted passed at 10-3, and the experiment was approved for funding.
