Tonttu (Halflings)

The halfling race in the Commonwealth is known as tonttu. From the Fourth to Seventh Ages, tonttus were enslaved by the humans of the Commonwealth. They achieved their freedom in the Seventh Era. The social wounds are still relatively fresh between the human and tonttu communities.
There are three main ethnicities of tonttu in Orbis:
Urban Tonttu:  The majority of tonttu in the Commonwealth, with various skin tones. (Comparable to lightfoot halflings)
Buckfoot Tonttu:  These tonttu shun cities and develop rural settlements throughout the Commonwealth and Pezzlio.  They stay as separatists from human society keeping alive the memory of when they were slaves.  They descend mainly from ancient tonttu slaves who escaped captivity.  (Comparable to stout halflings)
Ice Tonttu: light-skinned, nomadic tonttu tribes found mainly in southern Pezzlio. (Comparable to ghostwise halflings)
