The Forest of the Nightmare King
The Forest of the Nightmare King has always been something of a curiosity in terms of what it is. A place where the barriers between the Fae Wilds and the Material Plane wear thin, many of the energies of the Fae Wild have leaked into the forest causing the rapid growth of a dark and dense forest. Originally just a simple magical forest, some of the darker elements of both planes began to gather, starting of as creating a dark shadow of a creature. Soon though it greedily drank in more magic, fuelling itself to create a body, becoming the Nightmare King. A creature who's power and influence once threatened the Faerie Courts, the kingdoms of Spyre and even the Wyld Hunt enough that all these powers teamed together to bring about it's downfall.
Despite this however, due to the King being an amalgamation of various energies instead of actual flesh and blood, merely killing him would not be as simple as destroying his physical body. Thus stepped forward Sir Arthur Aguefort with a plan. To seal the power of the Nightmare King into his own dark crown. After a hard fought battle, the plan eventually succeeded, but not before the Nightmare King cried out with his final words 'I shall return, and cover all existence in my shadow!'. His power sealed away, the wraiths that served him loyally carried his new form away to be protected, leaving the crown in the hands of Arthur Aguefort.
Since then, through the remaining power of the Nightmare King and his loyal servants, they have maintained their iron like grip on the forest for their hold in Gilvnder. Blocking any contact from the outside world, technology is limited in use to only the upper class of the Shadow Keep. The peasants are kept in the dark about technology, and are oppressed, viciously. There is of course a resistance, although they have yet to decide on one solid name.

Home to many monsters, abberations and dangerous fae, the plant life here has to be equally as dangerous. Not only are there the tall thick trees the forest is noted fore, but large luminescent mushrooms grow here too, along with carnivorous plants, poisonous fruit, giant spiders that dwarf what previously thought possible and snakes snakes with venom that can liquefy your insides.
