WWDitC Ch. I: On Hallow's Eve

General Summary

From the Folk Singer's Journal,
October 31, 1993
To embrace is to create through violent means, destroying a mortal body to turn it into something stronger. But what if that newly forged creature is still aware of its mortal life, with vast swathes of its humanity still intact? Will their fresh perspective give them a clear view of the Masquerade's hypocrisies and contradictions, or will the pull between life and undeath be too great for their minds to bear?   Only time will tell, but I belive I've chosen a handful of Thinbloods capable of surviving this change in fate. Each are desperate in their own way, whether that's a better life for themselves or for the ones they care about. It's that kind of passion that will fuel them in this new life, determining whether they maintain their humanity or they surrender to the beast and its base urges. Each of them are young, but old enough to understand life's harsh truth. Each of them are ambitious, but stuck in life by obstacles insurmountable to the average mortal.   I'm pleased they adjusted so well to this newfound existence, you can chalk up sharpened fangs and paler skin to good makeup work but you can't deny the way someone can turn their mere presence into a mesmerizing show of control and power. Some tried to escape, but that's why I've always had strict defensive measures installed at every place I perform an embrace. They enjoyed the drinks, including the ones that only be appreciated by kindred. A surprising number of them were able to drink alcohol without any difficulties, these simple connections to the world of the living will carry them through the darkest nights of their new existence.   And what waits for them in the night? Clans, domains, half-mad kindred fighting over the same city blocks for more than century. I couldn't have asked the Long Shadow to do a better job of showing the way things are run here in Seattle and beyond: hunt in your domain, experience unfathomable punishments and final death if you don't. For all their talk of independence and freedom, the Anarchs appear to act from a similar territorial mindset with how they nearly aducted one of my Thinbloods from me. According to the prophecies there are threats coming to kindred society with the power to topple the Masquerade itself if we're not careful, yet we still fight amongst each other as though the world is not hurtling towards a new era of transparancy and conspiracy.   I thought more about my Thinbloods and their receptiveness to the Malkavian, his eccentric habits mocked and ridiculed by the rest of kindred society. Is this just a passing interest, or will they be able to make something more of this relationship? The answer lays somewhere in the future, for the time being I'll have my sources keep an eye on them as they try to go about their human lives without breaking the Masquerade. I wish them all the best, it takes strong souls for what I have planned.

Character(s) interacted with

  • Rosalita Lee - At one time a good lover, but now just a good friend. It's good to see her doing so well in Camarilla Society
  • Long Shadow - One shudders to think of the consequences for crossing someone relying entirely on the shade to cast such an intimidating presence.
  • Rostya Belov - I noticed Alexander making small talk with this individual, is he aware of the power he holds from a boon with a Tremere?
  • Florence Garcia - Hector's history with her complicates matters, but I believe that the Brujah and Gangrel clans can still be reasoned with
  • The Malkavian - My newly embraced kindred could've spent the entire night discussing Hamlet with him, but sadly his presence in Seattle will only make their lives harder
