Elves

Elves are a sentient, humanoid species, mostly living in south-eastern Zang.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves are taller than Humans and just overall prettier with long hair, even the males, no beards and pointy ears. Their magical abilities are way stronger than Humans magical abilities. Generally they have a longer lifespan than Humans, about three times as long, but also a lower birthrate seen over time.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They populate south-eastern Zang, where a more primitive-living society of elves, commonly referred to as 'wood elves', lives in the green forest and a more advanced society of elves, 'high elves', live in the starry forest on top of the south-east-zangian plateau.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

High Elves are also well-known for their dedicated craftsmanship. They take their time with everything that they do in order to make it as precise and perfect as possible. This is enabled by their enhanced physical abilities and even refined using their superior magical abilities. Their crafts reach from masonry and carpentry for tall and elegant buildings in the starry forest over pottery and smithing all the way to the crafting of powerful magical artefacts.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

They are very devoted to the one God, they simply call The Maker and their worship of that God is a central part of their society. They even keep the sabbath, which is a rest-day on the seventh day of the week. Noone is doing any kind of work in all of the elven societies, except things that are really necessary. They only come together to have a special day of worship. Every elf takes part in their Eternal Song that they sing to worship The Maker. They take the holy writings of The LORD very seriously and literally. At least every house has a copy of the Holy Word, as they call it, and elves know it very well. Priests are assigned throughout elven societies to teach the local communities on how to understand the writings and how to act upon them. These priests gather yearly to address these matters and, every four years, elect a high-priest to guide them spiritually and theologically.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

To other species they are a bit more cold, but still way friendlier than others would treat strangers even of their own kind. Politically they do not get involved in anything that is beyond their borders. The strongest interaction elves have with their neighbouring species is the trade relations, where they import vast ammounts of food for a few of their superior crafts.
