New Year's
I am neither a social writer nor reader. When I write, it is private. Personal. Not even for the eyes of those closest to me. Especially not before it's "ready". When I read, it is most certainly not to be an unpaid beta reader for people who have no reason to put any stock in my opinions and with whom I will never knowingly interact with ever again.
However, I highly doubt that there's even anything in place to check for the "requisite" reading of and "Constructive feedback" on ten articles. I suspect that the only check in place is a simple algorithm that checks if an article was submitted to a challenge, and if it's public, and then hands out the badge. We shall see, I suppose.
There is no reward for this. Not really. Aside from a badge on a profile that no one else will look at. The digital equivalent of a gold star sticker. So, I don't feel bad about acting out of spite. This site, which I am a paying customer of, and its owners are not entitled to even a sliver of my limited social energies. Nor am I willing to submit my creative endeavors to the possibility of public scrutiny so that they can pad their "Community" stats. Particularly not for the most impersonal, intangible pat on the back possible.
I do, most certainly, have quite a few creative goals in mind for the new year, across an array of media. A fair few even involve using this site. But those are not for you to know. If I feel inclined to discuss those goals, it will be with friends, and people whose opinions I trust. It will most certainly not be with ten thousand strangers with whom all I have in common is an interest in meaninglessly-broad the subject of "writing".
