The Spinning

"I know you going to say its a bit on the nose but the spinning really is the most magical day of your life! I remember mine like it was yesterday,we had so much fun! Have you decided on what you are going to specialise in yet? I know you don't have to decide immediately but most of us do just know, Oh... How is it possible my little girl is so grown up already?"
  • A Thread of one of the collages speaking to their child about their up coming spinning
  • When explaining the spinning to outsiders most Maji liken it to a graduation or a coming of age. in truth, it is neither, both, and more. The Spinning is the moment when a person who is able to wield magic becomes a full member of their Thread and the Hapatic Schism. It is not judged by age but by understanding, before the Spinning magic users at the needle are known as the unspun, this denotes them as raw potential, they go from Thread to Thread, learning about the different ways to access their magic and they types that it opens them up to. Most settle quickly, magic is an innate skill and each Thread is an expression of how one accesses it. one a person has settled they may opt to undergo the Spinning.   Once every season all of the first stitches are working the spell in the eye, on this day the Spinning is held for any who wish to submit to it, this is to prevent any unfortunate accidents triggering something bigger. On the day an unspun will climb the steps of the needle and present themself in the eye. Here the first of their thread will show them the spell of protection and binding that the Schism works so hard to maintain at all times. Once this is understood the unspun must then step to the centre of the eye and join the casting. Once they have managed this step then comes the true test. all the other strands in the eye stop casting and the unspun must work the spell alone, and add their name to it. If successful they become a strand of their Thread. If not... Well, none have failed yet, but the consequences could be dire for all.
