Hollow

The hollow are a sad race, regarded as pathetic by some, forgotten entirely by most. Their existence is a miserable one in most cases, having no land to call their own and little to no history that any can remember they generally fall through the cracks in the societies of other grander civilizations.
A hollow is born when a creature of any race is touched by the void when with child, at least that is what the few stories say. This is not as far from the truth as most would like to admit, the few wizards and priests to be able to hold the knowledge of them in their minds and have been able to look into these strange creatures have discovered that they do indeed carry the void within them. The exact process that leads to their birth is unknown but it is accepted by those who have studied them that their parentage can be from any race. Because of this they can resemble any race from gnome to goliath, appearance is where the likeness ends however and those who look closely will see the one feature that gained the Hollow their name, their eyes are obsidian pits, and their mouths when open are an endless void of nothing.
The Hollow are hard to remember, they drift from the mind of most people within moments of them having conversed. Most hollow have the same problem regarding themselves, they forget about their needs as a person and many vanish into nothingness before they reach maturity, those who do manage to hold on to their sense of self have the unique opportunity to in those first years of their life shape themselves into the person they want to be.
It is fair to say that the possibilities of being one of the Hollow are wasted on most of the race, they are content to survive, very few of them daring to live and test themselves. Those who do often become high ranking members of the thieves guild, or the shadier bardic colleges. They are idea agents for many tasks that most are scared to do because they would be too exposed or the like.
Some Hollow follow the adventures life, trying with all their might to do a deed so great that their nature will be overcome and they will be remembered in songs for all time! As yet none have achieved it, the most famous Hollow was considered to be the guardian angel of a group adventurers who insisted he was real and a vital part of the team. It was assumed they were joking as all who had been aided by the group only remembered there being four in the party not five.
