Desert Glass Material in Spindle | World Anvil

Desert Glass

Created when lightning strikes the desert, sand glass is not a rare element but it is not easy to get your hands on unless you happen to be one of the Vu'Ko'Kita.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Varying in colour depending on where in the desert it is formed Desert glass ranges from almost completely clear to deep orange. The glass is smooth to the touch but doing so is likely to have your hair standing on end. as it still carries an echo of the charge that formed it. This echo is best seen at night when it causes the glass to glow faintly, the colour of the glow a combination of the glass colour and the lightning that struck it.   In its natural shape the glass often resembles a splash frozen in time on its top half, with the bottom section looking more like a complex root system.

Physical & Chemical Properties

One of the hardest materials on Spindle it is almost impossible to work and is often traded to the other races who use it for decoration, and ambient lighting.   In recent years the glassmiths have risen within the Jun’Bok’Jun of the Vu’Ko’Kita and have shown a talent for shaping the material.   Containing an echo charge of the lightning that formed it some of the glassmiths have discovered that the different coloured glows correspond to different types of magic, for instance white sandglass, the most common of the variety, gives weapons made from it a magical strength.   So far the other colours of glass that smiths have been able to find and use are blue and purple, the blue has been found to hold an even greater strength and is the only verity thus far that has successfully crafted into shields. The purple has been crafted by one smith, the only one to find any, and from it he wrought a staff which when used by a Maji amplifies their power.

Lightning in the Vu'Ko'Tin

The storms that frequent the desert have become strange of late, the lightning appearing in a multitude of different colours. Some believe this to be related to the Tear, others assume it is merely an atmospheric anomaly.
