Castle Kane

Paprika stared at the castle before her, overcome with a mixed sense of awe and trepidation. She'd been admiring it since it first came into view, though now that she had passed through its gate she felt dizzy as she stared up its tall walls. Her eyes danced around the face of the castle, a multitude of windows staring back at her. Though she felt so very small next to it, she felt a rise of curiosity and excitement, imagining what it would be like to live here.

Captain Ibori noticed her slack-jawed look, and a small smile spread on her face. "Here we are then, Castle Kane. Welcome home, Paprika."

Purpose / Function

Castle Kane is where the Triskele Knights make their home. They train here, live here, command from here, and conduct all other aspects of their business here. They also produce their own wine, which is named for the castle.

Alterations

Since the founding of the Triskele Knights, Castle Kane has undergone a number of alterations in order to better serve the needs of the organization. Superfluous rooms such as parlors were remade into offices, bedrooms, and conference rooms. The stables were expanded and the main courtyard was destroyed and remade into a training grounds for the Knights. Much of the art was sold to fund the restoration of the castle and its alterations.

Architecture

The structure itself remains as one of the last testaments to the previous luxury of Castle Kane with some exceptions, such as historically significant sculptures and the grand chapel dedicated to Pelor with its famous stained-glass window. The main building is a few stories tall, rising from its plateau and overlooking grassy hills, forest, and a river. The walls, made from white stone imported from the south and stained with age and vegetation, are decorated with friezes depicting various battles, gods, and legends. Caryatids flank what is now the training grounds, holding up a roof over a covered walkway that rings the grounds.

History

The castle was originally constructed thousands of years ago by the wealthy Kane family, though as their power and wealth dwindled the castle began to empty and its upkeep was no longer maintained. A couple hundred years back, an inheritor of Castle Kane founded the Triskele Knights order, having developed an interest in Trithereon after spending several years in a monastery where his ideals were taught. With the Kane family's power, land, and lineage greatly diminished, there was little resistance to the inheritor's decision to use the space for his Knights.
