Wilderlands Gargoyle

Wilderlands gargoyles are native to the more primal regions of the world, unlike their urban kindred. Scholars are uncertain whether they originate from gargoyles that gave up on living near other species or whether they perhaps represent an older form of gargoyle that originated before the advent of civilization. They are a people of great patience and introspection, useful qualities to have when spending hours or cycles without moving a muscle. They retain their kindreds fondness for stonework and are especially adept at carving things from what granite they don't eat.   In combat, they prefer to get the drop on the enemy with a good ambush. Should this prove insufficient, they have another way of getting the drop on an enemy, by flying out of reach and then literally dropping on them, using their entire body like a massive weapon. The impact of such an attack often leaves the gargoyle momentarily dazed, but their foe is usually a pulverized smear at that point.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Wilderlands gargoyles have a bipedal build, with two legs, two arms and a long tail for balance. They have a pair of wings, with which they can fly. Like all gargoyles, they are a blend of organic and mineral tissue, allowing them to absorb earth and making them immune to poisoning. The rocky parts of their body is mostly composed of granite. This makes them notably waterproof and helps prevent pollutants from settling, giving the wilderland gargoyles some protection against diseases. The properties of granite also means that white they are relatively easier to cut or stab than most other gargoyles, they can absorb blunt force better. Unlike many gargoyles, their hide makes them look less like a statue and more like a rough stone, allowing them to disguise hemselves as boulders. They also retain the gargoyles ability to interact physically with spirits and use this to hunt them in the wilds. Like most gargoyles, they are extremely adaptive, a feature which they can push to forcibly gain an advantage in a tight spot. This is very exhaustive and draining and few gargoyles would risk doing it more than once in so many cycles. Something they can do more often is shift the angles and local denseness of their armored hide, which they can reflexively use to prepare for an incoming attack.

Genetics and Reproduction

Female and male gargoyles reproduce through sexual intercourse. The egg the female lays in notably rougher looking than the smooth orb produced by other species of gargoyles, but turns into a young wilderlands gargoyle all the same over the course of a year.

Growth Rate & Stages

Once they have taken shape, gargoyles possess full control of their body, though their minds still take about six to eight years to fully mature. Their eat a lot of mineral rich diets, with a focus on chewing on granite deposits, in order to rapidly grow. Gargoyles are considered full adults by their ninth year on average.

Ecology and Habitats

Wilderlands gargoyles are not as urban as many of their kin. They live in the more uncivilized regions of the world, especially in rocky or mountainous areas where their rocky hide gives them a natural edge in hiding. Such areas tend to be clear of more dangerous spirits, as the gargoyles chase off or consume those they find to malicious to keep around.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Wilderlands needs a mixture of organic food, primarily meat, and mineral food, with a strong preference for granite deposits. They are ambush hunters by nature and use their rocky appearance to meld in with the scenery until suitable prey wanders close.
