Knighting

Knights have a important role in the Sovereignities of Crounereume, serving as defenders of their sovereigns, their sovereignity and the people who live therein. Going up against the wily, savage forces of the Wilderness, knights are selected from the best of the best, proving themselves through trials and tribulations.   Those who show themselves worthy are then knighted, an official ceremony where they are welcomed into the knighthood of their sovereignty.

History

The exact history of knighting is unknown. The most popular theory is that back in the days where Crounereume was dominated by the Wilderness, the first sovereigns gathered around them loyal companions on their many quests. Each group had their own initiation rites, which serves as proof of dedication to the band. When the Soveregnities were founded, these rituals morphed into the more modern knighting ritual.

Execution

In its simplest form, knighting has the prospective knight kneel before their sovereign. They then swear loyalty to the sovereignty and to live by the its virtues. The sovereign then gently touches the knight's shoulders and proclaim their initiation into knighthood. The ritual varies, depending on the individual sovereignty. Orageon typically has all prospective knights duke it out in the arena first. And in Taumazia, the knight must wear the Crown of Truth while swearing the loyalty, with the magical crown incenarating anyone who lies.

Components and tools

The sovereign usually wields a weapon, most often their personal one, when knighting.

Participants

The squires to be knighted as well as the sovereign are the key participants. Everyone else are but audience.

Observance

Several knightings are usually done on the same day, unless there's a suprising lack of candidates. It is usually held while the fields of teh sovereignity has been seeded, as this is the time when the most people can come participate in the festivity.
