Background:

Wiremu "Will" Kauri was born into a family of warriors, hunters, and protectors, tracing their lineage back to the tohunga warriors of old. Raised with a deep connection to kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the land and people), he was taught that true strength is found not just in battle, but in knowledge, patience, and discipline.

His father, Hone Kauri, was a respected community leader and former soldier, known for defending their whenua (land) from exploitation. He instilled in Will the ancient ways of tracking, survival, and combat, blending traditional Māori warrior tactics with modern reconnaissance and guerrilla warfare.

But the law does not protect everyone. When corporate-backed criminals moved to seize their land, the system—the police, the courts, the government—did nothing. His father fought back, refusing to bow. And then, one night, Hone and a group of elders were burned alive in a "fire."

The official story? An accident. The truth? A message.

Will vanished, presumed dead. But he wasn't gone—he was becoming something else. He went into the wild, disappearing into the forests, mountains, and rivers of Aotearoa. He honed himself into a ghost, a predator, a weapon. He trained until his body was steel and his mind was sharper than a taiaha. When he returned, he was no longer just Wiremu Kauri.

He was The Taniwha—a shadow in the night, a relentless force that criminals whisper about in fear.

He hunted down the men responsible for his father’s murder one by one, dismantling their organization piece by bloody piece. But even after the job was done, he didn’t stop. Because the system was still broken. The law still failed the weak.

And so, he hunts.
No badge. No jurisdiction.
Only the hunt.

Physical Description:

The Taniwha moves like a predator, his lean, powerful frame built for endurance and precision. His body is a map of scars, each one a lesson learned in battle. His weathered tan skin speaks of years spent in the wild, exposed to the elements.

His black hair, often unkempt, is tied back only when tracking, and his sharp brown eyes miss nothing. His face, once open and expressive, is now a stone mask—watchful, unreadable, unreadable, dangerous.

He wears a modernized take on traditional Māori combat gear—stealth armor infused with weaving patterns resembling whakapapa (genealogy) and ta moko designs across his arms and chest. His camouflage cloak, a near-invisible shroud, lets him vanish into the wild.

He is the shadow criminals fear.
