Kanepryl Species in Spacial Tangent | World Anvil

Kanepryl

The Kanepryl (Pronounced "Can-a-prill") are a lighthearted plantoid species to the Galactic South.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Kanepryl are best described as sapient bushes. Their body consists mostly of a large head from which their leaves grow, supported by numerous root-like appendages that work as arms or legs. Their sport a pair of eye-like organs which they use to see the world around them.   They are not particularly fast or strong, though boast strong regenerative capabilities. Their primary method of defense is the production of airborne narcotics. The effects last for two to six hours, depending on the amount used. At high doses, mental effects can include anxiety, delusions (including ideas of reference), hallucinations, panic, paranoia, and psychosis.

Genetics and Reproduction

Like a plant, Kanepryl are born from seeds dropped by their parents. This is not a deliberate act but just something that happens. For the good of the community, newborns are raised by the entire community instead of a family unit. One's actual parentage is irrelevant, merely where one was raised.

Civilization and Culture

History

The Kanepryl evolved on the planet Ma, establishing civilization some 20 thousand years ago. Despite its ages, the Kanepryl spent most of it in a rather primitive state. Their generally relaxed view on life, and ability to sedate most predators with ease, created little urge for the intelligent plants to advanced themselves.   Rather, their drive into space was caused by an event known as "The Great Sobering". An asteroid collided with their planet, and threatened their existence as a species. As such, they pulled their greatest minds together, and set off into the unknown. Despite having been space fairing for about four-hundred years now, this was actually achieved without space-fold technology. That is to say, the survivors of their species made the great journey across the void at conventional speeds. Space fold was only developed after a new home had been colonized, and the species has spent much of its time rebuilding on their new home.
