Tanpa

Tanpa is a remote gas giant and home to the massive Institute of Technology. The institute is a tightly organized cloister of tech-magi that help keep the Red Sun Commonwealth functioning. Tanpa was where most of the research in constructing Camorrah Station took place. Tanpa is resource poor, but is entirely self-sufficient thanks to the Sky Kite, a massive station where the majority of population lives. The rest of the population lives in the ring around Tanpa, in smaller ice-stations that are reliant on the Sky Kite to survive.
During the silence Tanpa was almost entirely cut off, and have developed a highly regimented and discplined psyche in its wake. Many outside scholars view the Institute of Technology is quasi-religious, with heavy emphasis on exploring paracausal and psionic-related anomolies. They are protected by a defense array of drone constructs and highly disciplined tech-monks bristling with pre-silence weapons and technology.

The Cloister

The Institue of Technology is at the same time a research organization combined with the ascetic discipline of a monastic order. They have a strict code of conduct. It is regimently applied, though it is completely voluntary to join. Those who do join pledge to defend the institute and its knowledge. There are many cases of pirate lords attacking the institute only to get rebuffed by the dangerous drone network that defends the system, aided by the Institute Sentinels who enrich their power with advanced cybernetics. 
The cloister, as its known by many in the Great Expanse, is highly secretive among outsiders. People may visit, but only if they are given an explicit pass. Their relationship with the Red Sun Commonwealth is strained at best. The long isolating time of the silence forced the Institute to focus inward.
