Ba'lal Ballgame

The Ba’lal ballgame, often simply called Ba’lal, is a full-contact sport originating from the Tiq'en people on the planet Epra. The game is quite popular on Epra as well as across the galaxy, it is safe to say at this point that the game is not just a Tiq’en sport anymore.

How to Play

The game takes place on a sports field and involves twenty players in total. The teams are made up of one goalie, three defencemen, three midfielders, and three attackmen for a total of ten players on each team. There are three goal hoops, that are staggered in height and size, on each side of the field with the points made from scoring depending on the height of the goal that it went through with the tallest and smallest goal being the most and the bottom and widest being the least.   The goal of the game is to get the ball into a goal. The teams are to defend their goal and get the ball into their opponent's goal. This is done using game sticks, called Ba’lal sticks, which are used to hit and carry the ball as the players move around. The players can also hit the ball with their elbows, knees, and body but not with their hands or feet. The ball can be passed between players by throwing, it can also be intercepted or picked up from the ground all using the stick.   Players can also be quite aggressive, with players being able to push and jostle other players and can even check each other bodily or with their sticks. Players cannot tackle other players. Due to the game being quite aggressive and somewhat violent, injuries are common for players.

Equipment

As mentioned previously players use sticks that can be used to hit or carry the ball, which is small and typically made of rubber. These sticks have a flat, paddle-like end and have a curve at the end which help in carrying and throwing the ball.   The players also wear padding, like elbow pads and knee pads as well as padding across the shoulders and some of the upper body. Players also wear helmets for head protection.
