This colony was founded at nearly the same time as the one on Meccano and has been under its direct influence since both lost colonies were rediscovered. Since 2487 Meccano has instituted a tighter rein over Saladin to try and keep out influences of League traders. This has led to greater repression and increased discontent, with the similarities between the two planetary religions being a secondary cause.
Saladin lags behind Meccano in tech level and increasingly there is a feeling of being a second-class member of an alliance. The harsh climate combined with the difficulty of getting trade that passes Meccano's strict rules is limiting the population's opportunities for advancement.
