Paradise Lost is a planet which previously had a thriving tech/6 -7 society a few hundred years ago but which destroyed itself in a nuclear holocaust. It is thought that the society was unable to develop space travel due to there being no other planetary bodies in the system and therefore not providing any interim steps, thus requiring a single leap to interstellar travel.
The remains of the population are now nomadic primitives in tribes or small bands of up to 200 or so who have retained enough lore to keep away from the radiation hotspots that still dot the landscape. Due to the high background radiation carried by the pervasive dust the population has high levels of genetic mutation and their current culture rejects contact with off-worlders. Beyond this, little is known about the survivors or what myths have been created about the time before the wars as survey teams have not been able to maintain any contact or observe the native population.
