The colony of Meccano was founded in the days of the Pure Earth movement on Terra by various religious groups mainly from the Middle East. The prevailing society is based around religious observance of a fusion of Islamic Sunni and Shia beliefs imported from Terra but modified over time to fit a more modern setting. When the colony was rediscovered in 2487, the tech level was tech/6-7 and since then the ruling oligarchy have started to import a variety of high-tech industrial machines and processes to improve the economy and have succeeded in bringing the general tech level up to modern standards. The population are divided into two groups: those who do not want outside influence and oppose outside contact and those who think that importation of ideas as well as technology is important for societal progress.
