Ligan II was discovered by the Independent Explorer 'Lightning Slug' in 2501 but news of the discovery was kept secret for three years until the legal position was clarified in 2504. Once the planet was known about it became a wide-open opportunity for colonization, with the temperate steppe conditions ideal for large-scale food production. In 2527 a race of native humanoids was discovered living on a non-colonised continent. These natives have a low birth rate and metabolism but recently their numbers have been increasing as they start to slowly accept some technological benefits like medical care and better tools.
Ligan now provides a significant proportion of the food for planets in the sector that import it and is also the site of a major base for League Explorers who are conducting surveys in the surrounding sectors.
