Golovin III is a hot jungle world and was colonised early in the Exodus. At first the colonists proceeded with full-scale exploitation but a significant proportion of the population voiced objections and moved for a much more selective operation aimed at the preservation of the many species of flora and fauna. There is evidence of some 'seeding' by an unknown group, probably the Precursors, as many of the plants and animals are closely related to Terran equivalents.
This policy survived through the period of isolation when tech levels declined somewhat and is now embodied in a real physical separation of the people. Around the starport and in other smaller areas the industrial and processing centres are strictly confined. Outside those areas there are many small communities spread out over a large area of jungle. The tech level of the outer communities varies greatly, reflecting the prevailing thought in each 'village'.
Some of these small communities have developed a very close relationship with their surrounding environment which some observers have described as 'near-symbiotic'. This mostly relates to those actually living in some of the very large species of trees that occur on the planet. With the rediscovery of the colony, trade with the League opened up quickly and the greater prosperity has spurred some of the leaders in the more industrial area to press for full membership.
