As Dentor is a desert planet, the agricultural potential of the planet is small and the local resources (ores, petrochemicals) are not readily exploitable, so on face value there is little to suggest that it would make a viable colony. This was true for many years until the Optimax corporation established a base for trade with the Terran Sector here, mainly due to the location rather than other resources. Its position 300 LY from Traianus and 240 LY from Terra make it a convenient near-halfway stopping off point for the long trip between the two sectors.
Other Mercantile corporations followed Optimax's lead and now most of the larger conglomerates and many smaller ones all have some form of trade goods storage facilities established on-planet. This has lead Dentor to become known as the largest warehouse in Federation / Mercantile space. Vast areas of the planetary surface have been turned into automated goods storage and retrieval, allowing trader starlines to operate between The League and Dentor and between the Terran Sector and Dentor, removing the need for long-haul transports to make the entire journey between Terra and Antares.
There is little here to interest the inter-sector traveller, though passenger starships sometimes do make short stops here to resupply when needed. There have been stories of non-corporate traffic (pirates) also using the world as a depot of sorts but despite efforts by corporate police forces and the DSC nothing has come to light.
