Discovery

Discovered washed ashore, which begun the Caleco Glitter Rush.

Everyday use

  • Most commonly used as currency, accepted nearly everywhere in the galaxy, and almost exclusively on Caleco and its moons.
  • Next commonly used in fashion, often as different types of makeup, hair and body sprays
  • Also commonly used as recreational drugs
  • Less commonly manufactured into military weapons

Industrial Use

Goes through manufacturing to create both weapons and drugs

Refinement

Does not need to go through refinement to be valuable and usable, though dust is often the most sought after form.

Manufacturing & Products

Currency - akin to gold or diamonds. Money is backed by glitter and other precious resources. Wealth is measured and displayed with glitter.

Fashion - People struggling to be fabulous without it. The #1 most wanted thing in the galaxy. You're basically trash if you show up to some high-class event without glitter.

Drugs - Dazzle, Daz, Tinsel, Tin, Flakes, Pixie Dust, Metal Molly, M&Ms - Highly illegal Glitter based drug - everything like cocaine or meth: addiction, effects, side effects, looks like snorting a pile of silver glitter. Often made from Ghost Glitter, sometimes made from synthetic glitter.

Weapons - Highly unstable after manufacturing certain types of glitter - basically like white phosphorus

Hazards

Certain types of glitter are highly unstable, and put off noxious fumes. This form is often called Ghost Glitter, mishandling it will make you a ghost. Ghost Glitter is the form used in weapons and sometimes in certain drugs.

Environmental Impact

Every once in a while there are beautiful, dangerous glitter disasters like glitter ocean spills, glitter pollution. Glitter can also be very toxic in large, unrefined amounts.

Reusability & Recycling

Plastic glitter is not recyclable. Low amounts of natural glitter can be reabsorbed into the earth with no real consequence.

Distribution

Trade & Market

People mine for glitter, but it is really dangerous, like the gold rush. There are risks of cave-ins, bandits, warlords, mercenaries, trespassing in mining camps

Storage

Only volatile glitters like Ghost Glitter need to be specially contained.

Law & Regulation

Like Prohibition, people were afraid of the greed, blood and environmental hazards that happen when people go crazy for glitter. A ban was placed on individuals and companies mining for it without galactic government oversight. Also allowed the governments to pocket this money for themselves through writing their own laws for their own mining companies. Legal mining for glitter happens with permits and planetary permission. Generally you need to have a lot of money for these licenses, and only corporations mine for glitter. Unless you are willing to go the illegal route. There are also illegal corporations mining for glitter on shitty planets like Caleco, which are in the outskirts of the galaxy, far from the reaches of the galactic government. Like Detroit or Sin City Old Vegas; they all know what happens out there, but the government doesn’t bother trying to regulate it since they get kickbacks, it’s too dangerous, or not worth it.
