Acedia

Written by MacT09

You hear him once more, the voice of a friend, or maybe an enemy."A blizzard of weariness overwhelms our bodies and souls as we lay in the gray snow of this accursed kingdom. Sovereign is a trap, don't you see!?! It called us here, that's what it does! Sovereign seduces you then it.... it... where am I? I think I'm... yes, I'm going somewhere, somewhere peaceful, a place to rest. It's ok, the aura calls us forward, so sweet and tender. It calls to us, beckoning us forward to our next destination. The blue flames hover in front of a set of towering doors that stretch to what might be considered a sky. We crawl to the entrance, too tired to carry on as our souls seep from the gaping holes that dwell within our hearts. The cold doors slowly open, bringing with them a subtle breeze that left my eyes feeling heavy and burdened. The twin flames lead us forward through the entrance, but what do I care about? I can barely walk as I follow them through the giant doors that seem all too familiar. It's strange, but I feel like we've done this before, or maybe it was just me. I can't remember anything, I'm just... so tired of all this. Let me rest, just for a while. You should rest too, just lie down somewhere, anywhere. The grass is soft, softer than any bed I know. Look, the trees rest with us, for they don't even stand. All of the trees slump downward, losing their leaves as they become more and more uprooted. Come, let us rest from our troubles and worries as they slip away into the abyss of absurdity. It doesn't matter, none of it does. Just sleep... just... sleep. Countless seasons pass us by as the trees rot in their rest, leaving a foul odor that.... oh what's the point, just sit, don't think. Let the blue flames serve as our nightlight till our rest is done. As my eyes close once more, I see something in the distance, something that's illuminated by the twin flames. Too weary to read it, that.... stone thing. Just a phrase, just a word. " The King worked tirelessly for all until he abandoned them thus allowing them to fall ACEDIA". Just... wait where am I, what is this place? My flesh aches from atrophy, as does your heart! So weak, so frail, just lost. Look for the others, hurry and look, before fatigue overtakes us! There, in the valleys, there they are. Some are toiling, toiling without end! Around and around they go, having no energy to spend. Go and grab them, I'll wake the others. The stench is unbearable, so much rot and decay! The grass is nothing but slime now, like a restless grave without peace it burns our feet as we step upon it. Come, the flames are moving. Another door is opening, let us leave! Lets... leave... just... go. My mind, it's fading before me, it's fading before my very eyes. I can't walk anymore, just crawl. I.. must get out... of this. There, just a little further, just a little longer. Through the doors, we crawl as our weakness crushes us. We both fall just outside the doors of Acedia. There are fewer of us left, so few now. Some didn't wake, they just sat there, not moving, thinking, or breathing. There were no screams, only silence. My soul fades away, I can go no further. Come let us find a way out, let us... Oh my aura, so sweet and tender, wait no stop! No, stop, please, just stop! I don't want to follow you, I can't do this anymore! I said stop, I'm warning you, dreadful aura, just... die."

Architecture

"Fields of endless rest and profound apathy flow threw countless hills of endless darkness. If one listens closely the gentle breeze whispers gently to the heart, leading slowly into the ground beneath the hearer. This same breeze can also stir hearts to another extreme. While some fall to the ground, others wonder forever, never resting for even a moment. Both rest and restlessness flow in a disharmonic cycle of pleasure and pain. Ultimately both flesh and spirit wither into the quiet abyss that surrounds this tranquil landscape."

Geography

"One see's a bed, while the other sees endless labor. One falls forever while the other never hits the ground. In the end, both are lost..."
