Drake Iron

Drake Iron is a material found exclusively in the mines of Kudreoria, tougher to extract and utilize than its counterparts but yielding a better result for it. Drake Iron is the same density as regular iron, but is much harder, and when transformed into Drake Steel is nigh unbreakable.

Material Characteristics

Drake Iron (and Drake Steel by extension) is much darker than normal iron. Instead of the silvery-gray of normal iron, this takes on a dark brown or black coloration, though it is intensively reflective and appears to be a rather glossier material than its counterparts.

History & Usage

Discovery

When the Dwarves of Atha first settled into the Six Sisters, the mountains of Kudreoria, they began mining operations in earnest. Needing to expand their living space and gather materials for their own use, it was not only the necessary choice but also the desired one. And so the mines began, continuing on to this very day, for the mountains run deep and their riches are plenty. It was through this mining that a rare material was discovered, darker than normal iron and nigh impossible to extract from the mines below. It took entire teams weeks of effort to pull it out of the mines, and though the ore was prized none could work it properly. The ore was eventually given to a Dwarf by the name of Throgrick Drakegrip, who spent years searching to understand the inner workings of this strange metal. When at long last he displayed his first work, a dark sword that caught the light like the glossy scale of a dragon, the metal was named Drake Iron in his honor.

Manufacturing & Products

Drake Iron has historically been used for weapons and armor; with its long work period and high price, it was usually only provided to high-ranking guards of important royal figures. Since its transformation into Drake Steel has been realized, Drake Iron has fallen off in use, if only out of the desire to utilize what little of this precious metal there is to its fullest potential.
